use of lower case U on 2008 ASE

Does someone besides me think it is a gross error on the mint's part to have used this lower case U on the new 2008 coin?

No error, they have adjusted the dies.

There are enough changes between 2007 and 2008 that are so different, by just placing them side by side (reverse up) on can readily discern two different completely different production runs or years.

It is amazing to me that NO numismatic publication has even made note about it. Only NGC has written information on this. Only the Shop-at-home TV network has mentioned it!

What is even more amazing is that the Mint has pushed out shipping to January 25th, 2008 on these coins! Normally the Silver Proofs are always available!

maybe I should say, ...error, as in poor judgement choosing to use the lower case letter at all? as in, spelling error?

add: If wrong, it would be astonishing to see Congress make them correct the spelling at this point. Were they, the mint, trying to be artsy in using the lower case U? It's just interesting they would do this.

It's just a different font style.

I sent examples to Coin World two days ago so that they could photograph the differences, but they still come out once a week.

If the reports are true then yes, there will be Type 1 and a Type 2 reverse varieties but not error's.

Are the two reverses only found on the Unc's, or are they on the proofs as well...my proof has the lower-case U. Which is rarer?

The only mule error reported so far is a 2008-W burnished Unc. with the reverse style of 2007 (no serif on the U of UNITED).

Doesn't mean you shouldn't check all 2008 silver eagles for 2007 style reverses.
