Not even a very good attempt at properly copying the label.

A ton of feedback as a buyer, and zero as a seller. Looks like a newb who stocked up to open a store, and got hosed on some of his purchases.

    It looks wrong.

    Other clues:

Poor picture on a high value item (looking at other auctions he has the ability to provide decent pictures).

    This seller has sold replicas.

A quick look at other sales shows mostly low value items.

WTF! This is getting nuts. Everyday it seems someone is posting a fake coin/slab. I know what to look for in some coins and all slabs, but what if someone didnt? This really sucks. There is already so many things to consider when buying a coin, now we have to worry about fake slabs... I would expect the Top grading Comapny(s) to do something about this. I am not saying cover ones losses, but I would figure they would want to do something to help prevent this, or make it harded for these scumbags.

So what looks odd? The spacing on "DETAILS"? The white color at the edge of the slab? Mis-centered top line?
Educate me. I'm comparing to three "detail" coins that I had slabbed at ANACS.

There's not much they can do. Perhaps making a more complex hologram would make the slabs harder to fake, but that won't stop many. Plus, you can't really see the hologram in ebay auctions very well, even if it is a real slab.

The font is way off to my eyes, but that's because me and probably many others on this forum look at such material quite often. To a person who has only seen a few ANACS details slabs, such a slab could be very believeable as authentic. We need to educate newer collectors, dealers. Yes, the counterfeiters may see this forum and learn their errors from us and we could ultimately be a benefit to them. But, as with almost all things, this is a case where something can be used for the good just as much as it can be for the bad. On the one hand, we are educating buyers who'd be otherwise duped, but on the other hand we educate the counterfeiters.

Compare the font of the "9" in the cert number on your slabs to the one in the auction.

I notified the seller, and he immediately yanked the auction. He also responded very quickly.

That's good. Perhaps it was an honest mistake on his part...feel sorry for him if he got taken on all those.

Based in his eMail, I believe that it was an honest mistake.

    Unfortunately, yes, he has.

The 1795 FH he sold is from the same Chinese hoard as this one:

By the way, an interesting ploy these Chinese sellers will take is to offer the coin, via ebay- but not directly, so to speak.

For example, the Chinese seller will offer a legit coin, such as this one after being in contact with the buyer seeking a counterfeit- such as the 1795 Flowing Hair dollar.

In other words, the final step in the negotiation is to purchase the "Buy it Now" legit (in this case the PCGS slabbed) coin yet have the counterfeit(s) sent instead. This way the buyer is protected via eBay and Paypal, and a future search never reveals the true coin sent.

When they start getting the type font and spacing correct...watch out.

Fake slabs are going to be one of the big numismatic stories of 2008.

Look at how the "AU 55 Details" is not centered but set right.
Same with the barcode. All yours are perfectly centered.
