The fat lady has NOT sung.....

In fact, she's not even fat yet....that is the mythological COIN fat lady I refer too, NOT the blabbermouth one.;D

I think we are in for a new wave up in many coin series' starting NOW.

You think coins are too high?

Well I heard that when the DOW was at 3000, 5000, 7000, 10,000 and 13,000

When gold was at 350, 400, 500, 600, 700 and even 850.image

When oil was at 40, 50, 60, 75, 90.....and now $100.image

What's high? It's all relative, my Brothers. My Dawgs. My nappyheaded.......ah nevermind....image

The Fire permit for my shop is 700 dollars this year. Twelve years ago it was $100.

Speaking of $100/barrel oil, you gotta love Aaaaaanold's big Austrian balls:

    CA sues EPA

Perhaps $200/barrel will do the trick? I've always believed it's gonna have to hurt the wallet BADLY to force any serious changes.

That's actually State Attorney General Jerry Brown (a voter elected position) who was once a CA governor and AKA Governor Moonbeam.

Yeah! Wouldn't we all like to see gas under $3.00 a gallon?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I agree, there are a few series that have potential for large increases in the near future.

Does anyone know who came up with that expression about the fat lady?
I've looked in Bartlett's and elsewhere, with no success.

Gutsy call. I had lunch with a luminary of the hobby a couple of weeks ago about representing me in future auctions, etc. He made the point that good coins are no longer cheap and generally expressed a lot of caution about the current environment. It made me think of the old Wall Street saying "Markets climb a wall of worry." It will be interesting to see how the auctions go the next couple of months with the incessant media drumbeat of gloom and doom. I will be a good buyer.

    Who is John Galt?

IMO, in this topsy-turvy world we live in, collecting keys and semi-keys across the board in the best possible grade you can afford is a good play - despite what the markets do, these types of coins will hold value over the long run.

Thanks Russ. You should take over editing Bartlett's. It sure sounds like a sportscaster's comment. I was thinking maybe Howard Cosell.

What you cite in your OP is the tremendous and unequivocal benefit of time.

I LOVE people like that. They are the ones who talk people into selling their cooins so I can buy them.

Hard assets are the new move here. First it's bullion, then it's collectable coins. Good luck...buy them cheap. It's funner that way. image

OPERA AIN'T OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS, THE -- "The outcome of any contest isn't known until the final results are in. Thus, don't make premature judgments or give up too soon. Often associated with Wagnerian opera, specifically Brunhilde's 'Fire Song,' in 'Die Walkure,' and the fact that Wagner may seem interminable to nonaficionados. Thus one's impatience would be relieved when 'the fat lady sings.' Originated in the United States in the 1970s. Bartlett's 'Familiar Quotations' attributes the coinage to San Antonio TV sports commentator Dan Cook. Ralph Graves claims in the August 1991 issue of 'Smithsonian' that it has its roots in Southern proverbial lore: 'Church ain't out till the fat lady sings. There are still other attributions, but nobody really knows who coined this popular saying." From the "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996

saintguru is absolutely right. We will see gold go and stay above $1000 just like you will never see a gallon of gas below $2 again. Ever. Sad I know but such is life.
