Prices from a mall show I went to today........

The first table I stepped up to had some very nice 1959's stars and minor stars. All were off center though and would have received the oc qualifer. Then I looked higher in the glass case and saw a 1959 Cepeda and realized that card would have been graded.......................evid of trimming. I looked closer at the other cards and saw they would have all come back evid of trimming also.

Then there was a bunch of new shiny cards that I am not really in to and a lot of those figurines like starting lineup, etc.

Near the end of the show I saw some more vintage stacked in years order. The 1968 pile had a Mantle for $250.00...........in vg at best. The 1969 pile had another Mantle in good at best for $225.00.

Oh well. Better luck at the next show.

    Last show I attended in Cincy (not Moeller) NO ONE had packs for sale- boxes yes but no loose packs at all. There was one guy who had Pete Rose rookies 2 Fake with the 1980's cali stamps for 60 ea and 1 real one for 500 4 at best. The only money I spent there was the 2 bucks to get in. LOL
    USN 1977-1987 * ALL cards are commons unless auto'd. Buying Britneycards. NWO for life.

    Not much vintage at any local shows need to go to the major shows
    to find the higher grade vintage

    I've noticed that the shows in my area have moved towards either outrageously priced vintage graded cards (PSA10 prices on 6 and 7 cards), and GU/Autograph cards. The unopened stuff will either be brand new or 1990 Topps/Donruss/Fleer. I did, however, pickup a 1986 Leaf box at a the last show I went to for $5, just for the sake of opening it. I passed on 2 1987 OPC boxes at $5 each, and I've been kicking myself for that.

    There is a show comming up Jan 18 - 20 or 21 in White Plains I'm going to if anyone is in the New York area .

    I'm hoping to pick up some nice goodies from there .

    Most shows, these days, are great for the kids. My kids are 3 and 5 and they love it. Buy a few packs of cards, a stuff animal, a photo, a hat, etc.... It's not for real collectors in my opinion. I am sure the national and some other large shows are different but typical mall shows are very low level.

    I go to that show all the time Anthony. The promoter is a friend of mine, and he's also one of the better vintage dealers at the show.

    I can find out Steve, but I never remember which 2 are upstairs and which 2 are downstairs. The coin show always bumps the card show downstairs.

    many sellers at mall shows are looking for the casual or novice collector who know little to nothing

    They sell off grade & problem cards at full retail or higher

    If they have graded cards they offer them as if they are A T-206 wagner card

    But look for sellers who offer raw cards only because they hate graded cards

    I found a guy who brought a near 54 & 56 Topps Baseball set raw

    I cherry picked all the hi grade commons (77 cards) & he was so proud of himself as he charged me over guide & stupid me actually paid his price

    Little did he know I sent them to PSA & 90% came back 8's & rest were 7's

    Best mall score ever

    My local mall shows seem to consist of the following types of Sellers:

    1.) Raw Vintage Guy -- No graded cards offered, wants the high Beckett price for PSA 5 or 6 worthy cards, he may have an occassional card which would score a PSA 7 or 8, but you will pay a premium. Will come down in value for raw cards which would grade lower, PSA 3 or 4, but does not come down enough to match the selling price of the cards on Ebay in graded form.

    2.)Modern Game Used/Auto Guy -- Has a ton of game used and autograph cards, and is always running a 50% off sale, as no one in their right mind pays book price for these cards. Appeals to the younger collector who wants today's stars.

    3.) Wax Box Guy -- Has a ton of new unopened material for sale. Sometimes you can work a deal if you buy a couple of boxes of the same series. Prices are no better or worse then anything you could score on the internet or Ebay.

    4.) Collector Turned Seller Guy -- Has a random assortment of cards for sale, which have no coherant theme. Kind of like if anyone of us tried to sell our collections. There are some really nice cards available, but unless his favorites lined up with yours, good luck in finding a card you actually need or want. Many times will run a sale on his collection taking a percentage off of a Beckett Price from the early 1990's. I might want to call this seller "Stuck in 1991 Guy".

    5.) Autograph Guy -- Lots of neat autographed photos, mini helmet, baseballs, pucks, jerseys, etd. Are any of the signatures real? Your guess is as good as mine, but the stuff sure does look neat.

    Lasy show I was at, I ran into this guy. He had some nice raw Ashburns I was considering picking up, but the guy was gone for literally 30 minutes (left his table walked the rest of the show and he was still not back!).

    Yes Steve. The January show in White Plains is in the upstairs portion of the Westchester County Center.
