Need advice from experienced Ebay sellers!

I've sold a couple big $ items before on ebay ($700+) but I'm in the middle of selling my Michael Jordan Rookie and I just got a bid by a newbie with only one feedback. What would you suggest? I've a little bit apprehensive about a newbie winning a very large dollar item.

    link?

sounds like the bidder's feedback is 100% positive, right?

    what's the problem?? haha!

If I were you, I would contact the bidder with something about how you welcome him to eBay and if he wouldn't mind to please email you back and let you know that he's serious about winning (and more importantly, paying for) the card. I'll betcha he'll write back. If it's any consolation, he probably has a weenie bid anyways.

the low feedbacker sounds like a potential future problem. I would block them immediately.

I wouldn't worry. Like mentioned everyone starts at 0. With that said the auction is still going on and the only thing the newbie has done has added value to your auction.

Let it play out. Some of my best sales came from those that were new to the flea bay.

Well you wont send the card out untill you receive payment first right? No worries then!

Thank you everyone for the input. I do agree that the newbie is adding value but I don't want other bidders thinking that this is a shill bid. If you were bidding on a $4000 card and saw someone with only one feedback.....don't you think that it's a possible shill?

Stevie, you are worrying to much, with the way ebay has the bidding history set up I wouldn't know what to think anymore. Is your card the only card he is bidding on? Also, if he drops out well below where the c ard should sell for I don't see the problem, Lastly maybe you should (the next time) add a caveat? something like ebayers with less then 10 feedback please email first? or something like that.

like I said earlier let it play out. You still have the card and that card is strong.

I would not worry about it. Most newbie buyers have been my best customers. This time of year many people use new IDs. Had a regular customer of mine with over 900 FB buy 200 dollars worth of items from me last week the ID he used was at zero. After he won he told me that was his new buying ID. Last 2 UPIs I have filed both buyers had over 100FB

I hear ya, I'll just chill and see how this ends up. Good advice with the caveat for future listings. I figued that I would only get "big fish" twords the end of the auction....didn't expect a newbie to hop into the race.

I recently started my "buying" account, but have only bid on a couple of $10 items to get my FB up to 3. I probably wont buy anything big for just the reason of this thread until I reach 10-20 Pos. I wouldnt worry though, but would email him to let him know you require immediate payment. Even though most of my NPB's all came from people with higher feedback, those that jerked me around with the "Im paying by Mo, check, etc." all had low feedback
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

You can put that caveat in there all you want, but there is really nothing you can do should a newbie buyer decide to bid and win. If you catch it you might can cancel his bids, but when I see an auction with alot of canceled bids I usually hit the back button.

This is true, but I would think most would follow that rule.

I know I did when i was first starting out and saw that.

Agreed with the fellas above, obviously you won't send anything until the payment is safe in your hands and moved to a secure account if he pays via Paypal. Just the normal discretion and you shall be fine. We all started at zero. Shoot him an email and explain your concerns and see his tone in the response. If he is a tool, then block him, if he is mature let it ride. JMO

I hate when people chip in with this kind of comment.
After all, didn't you start with a feedback score of 1, I bet you even started with 0,(that's ZERO)
It must be terrible going through life always having to look over your shoulder and thinking everyones out to get you.

    To the OP:
As another poster said, just email the guy, ask for some contact info as well, maybe a phone number, address..just so your sure he is serious.
He may have created this account for the one reason to acquire a Jordan Rookie Card.
This newbie could end up being a huge customer.

Worst case, he refuses you any info, and you move on.

torc, that comment was from the same guy who gave someone a neg because he THINKS they ruined his perfect 5 stars on Ebay.

A '1' would scare me a bit on an expensive card, but who knows?

My current non-payer (from a set of auctions that ended 3 weeks ago) has a rating of 1440 and has ignored emails/invoices since early December. It's less than $100

He's also paid for items from others, and sold items (according to his feedback) since then, so it's not a case of sickness or an accident keeping him from completing the transaction.

No prob from the 100 or so auctions I've done this year until this guy.

The holiday season always has more new buyers than the rest of the year. I treat them like everyone else. Just make sure the check clears, and send the item insured registered mail. (That way they have to sign for it, and you know it was shipped securely)
