nice coin. i am unsure of the grade from the pics but would not have trouble calling it a au58 based on the pics. that is just a conservative guess. a real nice looking slider.
Based on the images (in-hand I might have a different opinion), I could see this coin grading anywhere from 55 to 62, depending on the day, mood of the graders, the weather, etc.
Most such coins probably get resubmitted until they unc. in this day and age, though the knowledgeable collectors in this series (of which I believe the OP is one) will likely pay the same amount for it regardless of the numerical grade assigned.

I pretty much disagree. If a coin has no trace of wear, and if the hairlines and/or marks are so bad that the coin would need to be net graded as an AU, the coin is usually bodybagged. Of course there are some exceptions to the rule. For example, PCGS seems to have an unwritten policy to grade (and net grade) almost anything in Pioneer Gold.

Somebody who gets it. PCGS looks at it the same way, which is the point. The OP bumped this thread because he wasn't happy with his PCGS crossover submission. If all the coins on the submission were like this one, he should not have been so shocked at the result - unless he isn't familiar with the way PCGS is grading.

PCGS nets technically mint state coins down to AU58 all the time. Right or wrong, they do it. And NGC has begun to do it more frequently as of late.
The bottom line is that if one is going to play the crossover game as the OP tried to do, either understand the PCGS standard or don't whine when the results are disappointing.

PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows. I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
When you get into rare seated material, worrying over the brand of plastic its entombed within is silly - it's practically impossible to complete a set in just one brand. Purchase coins you like that meet your standards for your collection and move on.
With that said, it is indeed financially important to periodically get feedback on your standards!

Again here is a respected opinion from someone who know these coins well. That is the purpose of the post. To repeat the dime is a great coin and among the finest.

You know, Russ calls it as he sees it. And it's an honest opinion and not directed at you personally. The worst thing is when I've ignored Russ's opinion and gone ahead and bought a coin I've been burned, so he's usually correct in my experience.

If you are going to post a coin here than be prepared to receive feedback you may not have expected. Russ simply gave you his opinion and you got angry. He has in no way antogonized you.
Russ can be acerbic, and blunt, but a grading opinion shouldn't be about style of expression. He's very objective in how he views coins, in my experience, and backs his assertions with logical points (as he's done here). Parenthetically, he's also scrupulously honest. One may disagree with him, but to not take his opinions into account is foolish. He certainly isn't an "idiot!" Don
