In the right hands this can be a good thing. In the wrong hands it could spell disaster.

My biggest concern is who the consigner is. If it isn't PSA, SGC, Becket, or GAI then be afraid. Be very afraid. And if it IS one of those, be even MORE afraid. Why would they be selling like this?

We're screwed no matter how you encapsulate it.

How long before someone would figure out how to reseal PSA holders using this machine and make it virtually undetectable.

This is distrubing. A scammer could take an expensive PSA card and crack it out, and replace it with a card that is obviously a much lower grade (or even one that has been trimmed) in a new slab and sell it at premium prices. Then resubmit the true high grade card back to PSA. Once they get the card back, the cycle could be repeated.

One would never know that PSA never graded the sub-standard card because the holder would not show any of the telltale signs of being cracked.

Once again, the adage of "buy the card, not the holder" are wise words.

If I were PSA, I would buy this just to destroy it. It would save many people from fraud, and it would also stop somebody from potenticialy becoming a good company, maybe LOL. If I were PSA, I wouldn't take a chance what so ever with this one, theres to many companies out there already. Or even one of the 3 major companies should buy this to either use it, or destroy it. Thats my business side talking, but I would definetly buy to destroy, if I were the head of one of the companies that is.

If I were to buy it to use myself, I would just encapsulate my own cards without having a grade on it, because I couldn't care less about grades. I collect Basketball autographs, so all I care about is the auto, and not the card grade!

wow. some of the things you all have posted has made me think that this is definately NOT a good thing ,I think you all are right. In the wrong hands this could turn into a major counterfiet operation. I dont send any cards into PSA or any other grading company but can anyone match up the materials the slabs are made of with those of the major authenticating companies? Unfortunatley There are always some people out there looking to scam people to make a quick buck and to make some pretty good counterfiet labels from any of the major companies im sure. Just imagine taking a PSA 5 CLEMENTE RC and making it a 6 or even a 7 the money that could be gained is in the thousands. Wonder if Leylands has thought this auction over ?

I'm not sure you guys understand the auction. I believe the sonic welder was custom made specifically designed to seal the custom holders, which as the auction states, are nothing like PSA's or anybody else's. At the very worst, Joe Blow wins the auction and starts "Joe Blow Grading", another GEM/PRO type company that is to be ignored.

Just as PSA has a custome welder that was made to only seal their holders and nothing else, this is a custom made welder that will only seal the slabs that come with it in the auction.

These slabs wouldn't have PSA logos on them (look at the front lower right corner of a PSA slab to see what I'm talking about). While a sleazebag could use PSA flips from crackouts to produce slabbed inferior, altered, or fake cards with original PSA flips, the slabs would be detectable as fake upon simple observation. They would get caught at a card show pretty quickly, but on eBay it might well be unseen until the buyer gets the card in his hands.

While in some senses it makes the scammer's job easier, because the telltale signs of a resealed slab obviously won't show in the auction picture, photo editing software and a skilled user can take those out of pictures too.

I agree this is a recipe for disaster. I think it is very irresponsible for Lelands to offer this up. As a company that makes money from this hobby, why offer up an item that could taint it.

You are correct. Nothing to worry about. The cards in this holder will have the same value as any other basement grading company.

It would probably be easier to go to the manufacturer an have them build them a new one. Just because this one is public, doesnt mean it isnt something that isnt available everyday.

I think it wouldn't be that hard to experiment with what settings are necessary to actually seal a PSA holder. I am sure there are ways to adjust the frequency or power settings and if it is designed with a specific shaped head on it, I am sure the local metal shop could change that pretty quick. I work for a company that would buy equipment like this and change it to fit their containers all the time, heck if you called the manufacturer and could lie really well they might tell you how to do it or do it for you.

Agreed.

Some of you guys are acting like this is something that no one can get their hands on. ANYONE can go out and buy a sonic welder. They arent made in secrecy or you dont have to have a license to own one. Did someone say that PSA should buy it just to destroy it? LOL Cmon...it's a piece of mechanical equipment that is available to anyone and everyone.

We'll just see some basement crap come out just as the other 50+ crap companies.
