Is the new Whitman Llincoln book on the shelves yet? If not, hopefully soon. Steve

LanLord · December 6, 2007 6:53AM

Last time I went to a book store I didn't see it, but I would like to get it when it comes out.

Of course, book stores aren't really leading edge on coin publications.

route66 · December 6, 2007 6:55AM

Guess I could check on ebay and amazon

route66 · December 6, 2007 6:58AM

nobody has it on Amazon or Ebay. Probably means it isn't out yet

I heard early December.

That blurp has been up on the Whitman site since November. As it says, it will be out in "early December". HAY! that's NOW. I sorta expect Whitman to send me an email on Friday informing me I can order directly for $19.99 with free shipping if I order by December 18th. How's that for me reading all their ads. Actually, I WILL be ordering this book just as soon as it's available from Whitman. Perhaps Dentuck can come on here and tell us WHEN.

Can't wait for the book to come out. I heard there may be some excellent photos done by our very own mgoodm3 in this book!

Dentuck · December 6, 2007 10:33AM

I'll update you tomorrow!

I have a copy of the book sitting on my desk, and would be happy to read aloud until your copy arrives...

[Seriously, though, I'll update this thread tomorrow.]

RWB · December 6, 2007 10:43AM

Mr. Dentuck--
Will you hold it up to your web cam as we gather 'round the computer? Please describe the photos and tell us all about the mintmarks and what happens to L'l Orphan Annie, silly old Mr. Leach, and Mr. Brenner's medals.

Thank you.

me too....................unless there's a movie

Longacre · December 7, 2007 5:09AM

I will be buying one, too.

Dentuck · December 7, 2007 8:12AM

The motion picture will be released in early 2008, starring Judd Hirsch as Abraham and Dame Judy Dench as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Now gather 'round your cathedral radio, little F. LaGuardia and friends too young to read, and I'll act out Chapter Four: Mints and the Minting Process, using a variety of entertaining voices.

For the rest, you can now order the book online....

Great news. Another Christmas present to self.

Steve · December 7, 2007 9:58AM

Dennis,
Thanks for the link. Bet you get loads of orders for this book over the weekend. I am REALLY looking forward to receiving it. It's the first NEW Lincoln cent book since 1999. And having Dave Bowers write it is a real bonus.

...Dame Judy Dench as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Yikes!!! Poor Dame Judy, from Elizabeth Rex to sad Mary fruitcake...."Such becomes not the good lady fair."

But I did enjoy your sound effects of coins woooshing down the chute and clanking about holding bins.
