Have you ever seen a bust half with a die clash like this?

Maybe I just don't get out enough. Is this date well-known for such a full clash?

The '14's are notorious for these clashes. Very nice coin tychojoe!

If you don't like them clashes, I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands!image

There are several 1814's I've seen with this clash with part of EPU above the date. Very nice coin, Tychojoe!

Oops -- It's not my coin image It's at one of the venerable sites we like around here, whose name rhymes with "paid". I wish I had the cash reserves to pay them for it! I was looking for something cheaper when I stumbled onto it. The original title of this thread was going to be "could somebody buy this for me?" image

Nice to know its sisters are not completely scarce... anyone have pictures of the more dramatic ones? I saw one like RichieUrich mentioned around here somewhere yesterday, but darker.

Seeing the clash was one of the only reasons I wanted the first 1814 I bought.

That coin looks just about like mine. image

Ah, darn, you really got my hopes up with that line - I didn't even bother to slide the cursor over the link first to see where the link was pointing! image

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I can't see the pic, but I once owned a beautiful XF-AU 1814 with the strongest clashes I've ever seen.

  • tychojoe,

Your piece and this piece were probably struck "very near" the same time.

Also, note the upside down motto left of the date - the letters are upside down but you can make them out - as well as the scroll letters above the date.
