Is there a "inexpensive" Mantle?

I'd like to get a Mantle card. One from his playing days. But i dont want to spend a billion dollars.

Is there one out there that I can get in a low-grade (heck, I'll take a PSA 1, seriously) for a decent price? The earlier year the better. And obviously, I've excluded the 51 Bow and the 52 Topps from this list.

Or does anyone have a PSA 1 or 2 for sale?

Thanks guys!

I'd want a "regular" card. Not an insert or anything. A real card from his playing days.

64 topps giants or the 1969 topps checklist are both dirt cheap for a nice conditioned manlte.

You can get a regular 67-69 in a 4 for under a $100 and 2s probably under $50. Not sure what your definition of decent price is though.

I agree with the 1964 Topps Giants. You can get a PSA 7 for around $50 I think. It is a great card of Mantle. Also, if I remember correctly, the 1958 All Star card is one if his most plentiful. I believe it was triple printed. In fact, in one of the recent big auctions, there was an uncut strip of 1958 and it included three Mantles.

I picked up a 1969 Topps checklist with Mantle's picture on it for 10 cents at a show a few months back. The card would grade PSA 1 MK, but it was only 10 cents, and hey, it's a Mantle! image

Yeah, that was the one he was referring to. Its the most affordable Mantle from the 50's without a doubt, except for maybe the 59 Baseball Thrills....(stolen scan from ebay)....

Another card to consider is the 69 topps as it will include his lifetime stats.

Quite a range on eBay for 1958 Topps #477 PSA 6s. $62.06 to $150. 25 of them have sold since August 9th.

Edited to add: I like the '69 card too, but even a few PSA 3s have gone over $100 in the last couple months.

I saw some BIN's well below $100 for the 58 AS card.

You can't go wrong with either his '58 All-Star or '64 Giants.

I think "inexpensive" would have been a more appropriate word.

I've always liked this one. Definitely the only card of Mickey blatantly missing a pitch. Plus it's an error card because it's showcasing his WS HR, which he obviously didn't hit in this picture. Add that to the fact that Bob Gibson is in the shot, along with the zombie-like 1960's fans in the background, and it makes for a pretty interesting card.

I picked this one up a few months ago for about $65 dlvd.

The 64 giant is over produced as is the 58 as, which i think is a triple print. My money would go for a 69 Topps reg card.

I always thought his brown-bordered 1968 topps card is attractive.

Here's a sharp PSA 4 that is at $71 with 3 hours left.

I have a pending deal on the 58 AS (raw)....

If I dont get that, I'll most likely end up with that giant PSA 8.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Really like this card even if it is a 1978. Great pic of the Mick and very affordable.
One of my favorite Mantles and I own some from the 60's also.

This might not at all be what you're looking for, but I have a 1966 Mantle in low grade condition. I'm just getting back into the hobby, so I have no idea how to grade this card. It's got a pencil mark on the top center, a water stain on back (not too bad, but a circle area that's a little yellowed), and the corners are kinda rough. I've had this card for about 20 years! I also have a '62 Mantle that I've had for quite a while, so I'd be willing to consider something if you want the card. I know the feeling of just wanting a Mantle, any Mantle...and then finally getting one.

<-- one of those guys who bought way too many 1987 Topps cards for a quarter a pack back in the day.
Other than that, I collect Al Kaline cards and any cool Twins cards. And, I love 1958 Topps so the Heritage set this year has sucked me in!

My dad gave me this one as a Christmas present when I was a kid, so it's not available. But, wow, I was just looking on ebay and you could pick one of these up in an off-grade condition for a reasonable price. This is a great shot of the Mick when he still looked young and he was the AL MVP in 1962...really cool card. I love it! Find one if it strikes your fancy.
