Did you pick that up today in Dearborn?
I went to the show today for awhile.
To tell the truth, I didn't find anything good.
I bought an 1877-S Quarter with a strike doubled mintmark, and an 1845-O Half with a repunched date, WB108. Neither worth much of any thing but I didn't have either of them.
I had thought of making up a set of all the die varities of 1845-O Half Dollars some time ago. Theres a lot of neat varities of that. I think this one I got today makes 4 or 5 different I have now.
I saw an 1841-O Large O closed bud reverse dime a dealer had. I told him I wasn't in the market for one, but wanted to look at it. It was a nice Good 6. I asked what he was looking to get out of it and he said $1500. He'll sell it, but not to me. I have the rarer 1841-O Small o closed buds reverse dime in about the same condition.
There was a definate lack of Seated material at the show. It seems to get worse every show I go to. Years ago, not many people collected the Seated coins, and a guy could cherry something good right along. No more. There's too many people now that realize the value of these and are snagging them up.
There was a pretty good crowd there, and that surprised me, given that that theres been talk the coin market has slowed.
I think we're pulling out of the summer doldrums.
I enjoyed the show in spite of the lack of material I collect, and saw many old friends.
The fall MSNS show in Dearborn is my annual 'trip to Mecca'. I have to make it.

I may go back and get a table for tomorrow or Sunday. I have so many CBH dups and with my second entering college next fall, I figure it is time to share!
And, re that 1842 contemporary counterfeit - Very cool!

Well, you were in Dearborn. Suburban Detroit is not notorious for crime. Hyatt is a nice venue. I have never heard of anyone getting robbed at the Dearborn show. Spring or fall.

Only robbery at the show I have heard of was around 10 years ago a dealer was loading or unloading (don't remember which) his inventory that was in a suitcase from the trunk of a car in the valet drive up area in front of the hotel and someone made off with one of the suitcases while he wasen't paying close attention, they grabbed it out of his trunk and sped off in a car.
I picked up a single piece for my set and also an 1824 Capped Bust Half counterstamped piece. After the show we met up with my publisher and his wife and a few other collectors for what turned out to be an enjoyable four-hour dinner at Kiernan's Steak House! (Voted the best steak house in Dearborn by the way - Try it!). All in all, it was an enjoyable day.
We planned on attending today (Sat.) but unfortunately I woke up this morning with a mild head cold . . . just enough to roll back over and sleep a good percentage of the day! Of course, now I'm wide awake so I thought I'd take a few shots to post here.

P.S. Nice Contemporary Bogos by the way!
