Unc ASE MM question

I noticed in 2006 and 2007 they post prices for both the W and P mints. What's the difference? Does it apply to earlier years as well? I do know that the Ws are the ones from the mint catalog.

Thanks,
Ray

Actualy there are no P Mint ASE's in 2006 or 2007, (with the exception of the Reverse Proof in the ASE set in 2006) they are all struck at West Point, the lack of mintmark indicates that it was a regular bullion strike which was sold through the bullion program to dealers, with the mintmark was issued to collectors through the mint.

Many people do not realize that the West point mint has been used as an auxillary minting facility for the Philidelphia Mint for many years, many Lincoln Cents were minted there in the 70's but did not carry any mintmark.

  • Thanks Texast. Would you be able to tell the difference between the bullion and collector version in a side by side comparison?

    BTW
I'm going to have to break out my one star flag again. Son is heading back in 5 days for a second tour.

The mintmark distinguishes the two, collectors version has it bullion version does not (one exception to this rule is the 2000 Millenium Eagle that was in the coin and currency set, either in the set or labeled in a reliable slab distinguishes the West Point only Eagle from the Bullion Philly Strike, Bullion strikes did not begin at West Point until 2001) Good luck to your Son.
