Okay, now I know why a 1952 proof Washington sold for way more than I thought it would.

What grade was it, Russ? And any idea of the value as the variety?

When I first started, I got cherrypicked a lot. These days I check everything, but I was asleep at the switch on this one. Kudos to my buyer!

PR66CAM. No idea on the value. It sold for about $100 more than I thought it would.

For those of us who would like to learn, what's a superbird? Does it refer to the breast feathers somehow?

    Thanks,

lol! now i do not feel bad. keep looking for the S sized mint mark on the eagle's breast.
i feel so dumb i did not see it right away.

    so blazingly obvious!

and now i have to go back to that antique store and check that
little brown box containing an original proof set in those little
    plastic bags for the "S"!

That "S" like mark in the center of the breast.

    Hope the consigner was happy.

CPG, like every other price guide, is wildly high on most values.

Thanks for the clarification! Does this occur on multiple dates, or has it been found only on a single date?

Well it was only a matter of time Russ. With the volume that you do, you're just gonna miss some of them!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

That was over three years ago. A PR66 non cam wouldn't even bring a fourth of that now.

With that one selling at $380, it looks like my bidder did pretty well at $323.

    That variety is awesome.

What range of dates does this occur? and I assume it's only for proofs?

Thanks for the "s" clarification people, because I looked at this picture right between the drumsticks thinking, "yeah, that would be a kinda superbird", but couldn't really imagine a thing like that taking off in numismatics. It's the "s". good.

Here's the one I bought off of Teletrade last month.

Its graded PCGS PR 67. Not a Cameo, although it looks like it could
have gotten that designation; its sooo close.

    I shelled out $435 for it. Its a POP 13 / 0.
