with 1963 obverse and 1956 reverse

I wonder what it is worth ( in publicity alone )

you could always list it on eBay with a high starting price
and make a point of accuracy of 3rd world slabs

darn it. goose beat me to it.

heck of a nice circ strike? ;-)

how many surprises was this coin supposed to have?

    3 so far!
  • No proofs minted. It's sweet, and I did note the error when I saw it and then held my breath until it came. Not sure what I'll do with it. PCGS doesn't designate heavy cam on Canadian dimes, I think NGC does, but this coin in an ICCS "slab" designated 65 heavy cam would be big. It's a rip, how big, time will tell.

Congrat's on that one Bill. Is that a Milk Spot by the "C" in Canada? If so, that'll hurt. Looks like it may need an MS70 bath, light dip.
  • Looks like a toning spot, Lee. But you've made a great suggestion. Gonna do my first dip, just happen to have some 100% acetone in the drugstore. Actually, I experimented on a Franklin half from a 60's proof set soon after I joined here, to see what it was all about. Works good. Tastes foul.

I don't see any "surprise;" looks perfectly normal to me for an ACG slab!

They didn't make proofs, but they did mint 'proof-like' coins. If it is a 1956 dime in PL65 Heavy Cameo, unfortunately, it's not worth a great deal, as they are common.

I hope though it is a business strike. It's worth more as an ms65 HC.

  • Thanks, doubleeagle. Fingers crossed. Say, you didn't mention what you shot the other day. 60's in Toronto and 30's here, sumpins not right.

    Proof-like--Cant see the dot though.image

  • Don't have it here, left it at work, so I can't look for it. Where exactly under the date is the dot located if it's one of those? And again, it's not proof. They didn't make proofs, but it does go to show how sweet this is.

I shot a 74, but it is an easy course (as par 72's go). Normally I'm between 75 and 80.

    I'm pretty sure 1956 dots weren't struck in proof-like.

  • Dude! Nice. We could play, I'm playing to a 5.3 now. Anyway, way to go. There's a few sticks on here, Kuch and fletcher used to be pros, Dr Guy Yokum, gynecologist to the stars, is about a 2 I think, probably lots more who are too modest to say. Man, a forum golf tournament, wouldn't that be something? FUN might be just the place. Hmmm...I think I might shoot for 2009 for that.

A forum golf tourny. Sounds great.

The only thing I'd be worried about having three other coin collectors in my golfing group is not to use a coin when I mark my ball on the green, because it won't be there when I go pick it up!! image

Where exactly under the date is the dot located if it's one of those

The dot is located between the '9' and '5' and it should be clear as day, as the dot is very well defined.

  • I didn't look closely, but there's nothing in the image, and as you say, it's pl I think and no dots for pl's. No lottery win tonight.

There's an interesting thread from about a year or so ago about coin markers by the golfers. Your point is well taken, we just won't let Longacre playimage

That is why you should stick with top tier slabs. They never make mistakes like this on their slab labels. image
