Thanks!

Everyone knows that a tick is smaller than a nick. A gash is larger than both, but a scuff is smaller and shallower.

Well to me anyway, a tick is like a tiny bright flea bite on the surface of say a modern coin and insignificant. A nick, I correlate to the edge of a coin more than the surface. But is still smaller than your typical bagmark. Some people refer to several tiny bagmarks on the surface as chatter. Everyones idea will be slightly different.

Ticks are little insects that suck your blood. Nicks are distant cousins who also try to suck your blood. A gash is what your buddy did to your seadoo last time he borrowed it and a scuff is what we are gonna get into if you piss me off. image

Movie flick! That's what that is. You're probably thinking about a fleck. And a flock has something to do with birds!

If you are the seller of the coin, then that imperfection on the rim is only a tick. If you are the buyer trying to buy the same coin, then it is a full nick, or maybe even a bump. image

A TICK will give you lyme disease whereas NICK could be a good friend image

But in coin terms, a tick is something more in the fields of a coin whereas a nick is something on the rim. That's just me.

Recently, a fellow collector sent pictures of a coin PCGS BB'ed because of a rim nick. He can't see it and neither can I. Have you ever heard such a thing? If it were substantial, then yes but we're not seeing anything that remotely resembles a nick.

Though he might have said that in jest, that pretty much sums up how I interpret them. image
