Cracking open PSA graded wax.

I really like PSA's wax pack slabs 100X better than GAI's flimsy crap. That being said, anyone have any experience cracking them? I am very good at cracking PSA's card slabs, but have never tried their pack slabs. They're pretty big, so it seems like there is plenty of room for error, but I just wanted to see if someone was a pro at this already. Thank in advance.

    I've only cracked one and it was tough. I got a pair of wire cutters and clipped off the top right corner. I then used a small flat head screwdriver to pry around the edges. It is just like cracking a card case (same method), but the wax holder case is tougher to crack. However, once you crack the case, it comes apart pretty easy. The tray that the wax pack sets in is actually a seperate piece and you might want to save it just for displaying non-graded packs. Hope that helps.

    I have cracked over 300 PSA slabs recently and never did I have to use wire cutters to clips the corners. I don't know why anyone would think they would have to do that?

    Bucc, you've cracked over 300 PSA graded wax packs recently? That's a lot of ripping.

    Wax Buc, not cards. Anyway, theyre done and unharmed, but it was almost like cracking a BGS slab.

    You guys misunderstood. I saw that the wax slabs may be harder but are they really compared to some of the tough card slabs? Are you implying that they used something other than plastic slabs sonically sealed together?

    Maybe they were supersonically sealed together. More likely, the plastic is a lot thicker and the extra weight required extra pressure to attach the two pieces, making it a much stronger seal.

    Plus, the pack sits in a little cradle that is independent of the 2 sealed plastics.

    The PSA pack cases are much harder to crack than the card case. The plastic is about 10x as thick.


    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
