I don't believe this set will be as popular as they think.
Press release:
Topps, in associating with the Mickey Mantle estate, is proud to announce the upcoming 766 card "Life of Mantle" set, each card commemorates one of the 766 months of "The Mick's" extraordinary life. From his humble birth on October 20th, 1931, in Spavinaw Oklahoma, to his glorious Major League Baseball career, to his untimely death on August 13th, 1995, in Dallas Texas, each and every month of Mickey's life is covered in this ground breaking set.
The 766 cards base set will not contain any short prints. However, this monumental set will take the game used concept to new levels with a 64 card game used subset, one card from each year of Mickey's life. Some of the highlights include a year-one bib, and a year-ten blue jeans swatch that Mickey actually wore during neighborhood sandlot games. Game used memorabilia will also be included from each of his Major League playing years. Also included are 1 of 1 cut autographs from diverse sources such as Mickey's 2nd grade spelling paper.
A Topps spokesman is quoted as saying: "Mickey Mantle is the most beloved baseball player in history and we believe we've found a new and innovative way to satisfy the demands of collectors. Our association with the Mantle estate is unique in the sports memorabilia world and we have taken advantage of the incredible access we have to Mickey's life. We expect this set to be our most popular set in 2008, surpassing even the established popularity of our Heritage and Allen & Ginter product lines. We don't want to make a premature announcement, but I can tell you that we have an even bigger and more innovative set planned for 2009, and subsequent years, that will consist of 365 card base sets chronicling each day Mickey's life, covering his Major League playing years."

I sure hope this is some kind of joke!
I think the most important words in the press release are "...we have taken advantage of the...access we have to Mickey's life"; key words being "taken advantage". If Topps really does these sets, I know I'll sure feel "taken advantage of"; and I for one, will not buy any of them!

<< <i>(I know I'll get flamed for this!!)

Maybe the stain on the card will be some gin or whiskey Mickey had leftover.
The Mick was definitely a force, but his last few years were a farce. if they do this set for him, there's about 100 players they need to do it for...
December 4th, 1963. Mickey woke up in a hotel room in Phoenix, Arizona, with a strange woman in bed. He walked into the bathroom and took one of the longest pisses of his life. Rumors persist it lasted for over three minutes. Mickey then drank the remaining half bottle of Jack Daniels, got back in bed, kicking the unknown woman out of bed stating "I don't wake up next to C___suckers. Get out".

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
