<< So, now that I'm not going to buy from him I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
You're not sure what to do? About what? You didnt get divorced and no one died, this isnt a life changing day in your life. Just buy from sellers that dont rip people off. >>
I tend to agree. Any suggestions? Yes, a lot of them but they might sound rude so I will hold them back. Ok, let me say one, GET LESS CLUELESS! Good luck!
As far as going to his store, I happend to be in Louisville last weekend and stopped by. He had a ton of 89 Fleer on the sale table. As far as it not being a big deal, I'm sorry. This is the guy I've always shopped with. I don't really know where else to look. I'm pretty crippled in this area. Forgive me. As far as my budget being blown, yes it was. Until last week when I signed a really big deal for my company. I didn't know my finances were in question here. As far as getting a clue, you know guys, I come here to get help. There are ways to put things without being rude. It's called tact. It's like being a huge fan of a team for years and years. Then all of a sudden your team moves to a different town 100's of miles away. You've always been a season ticket holder and now that's just not possible. You don't know what to do because you've always watched their games at the game. So, maybe you feel a little lost. That's how I feel right now. I just found out I've been getting screwed by someone I trusted. I'm not feeling really pleasant right now. I don't navigate Ebay very well because I've really only gone to one place. I don't know what to look for or anything. I was just wanting some help. That's all. But hey, thanks for kicking me in the nuts while I'm down. Hey my grandpa died when I was 8, wanna talk about that too. Every time I come on here with a situation that I'm dealing with looking for help I always get a few people who act this way.
There are some very strange things in your journey...
If you are actually going to a store of his, then why on earth is he shipping you cards through the mail?
Man, what are the odds of you buying a 1989 fleer baseball box, and the very next guy in the store buying the same? This is like a time warp as if when the boxes were on fire like during the Ripken error time. >>
Hoopster,
If you want to fit in with the "cool" crowd, I'd put your detective's mind to good work elsewhere. Like combating scammers and helping board members facilitate their hobby. Read what the man posted, and your question would be answered. As for purchasing 1989 Fleer, it's a fun rip, many, I do mean MANY, people purchase it to this day. Good luck Sherlock.
If you really would like advice on what to spend your money on or where to spend it.....you can never go wrong with BBCE. Great prices, quality product and top notch customer service! You can also collect vintage graded HOFers.....

Postmasters have the right to open the package to inspect media mail to see if it is really media mail. I am assigned to one office as a sub and work out of 12 other offices in my area. All 12 choose at least one media mail package per day to inspect.
If it is not media mail you pay first class shipping unless there are any priority mail packaging products inside. If there are, you pay priority. Depending on the postmaster and how much of a (insert bad word here) they are, they can choose to return to sender postage due. Then the sender pays the rest of the 1st class or priority, and has to start over with shipping.
I also would find a new seller. Lots of guys here have the stuff you want and it's sitting in their closets.
If you bought $100 worth of cards from me I would ship dirt cheap or free, and be glad to have them gone. Sellers on this board routinely sell things and include shipping or say "add $2" or something.
OR
If you use paypal, pay for each auction separately. Put a different shipping address on each. If you need help with that PM me and I'll tell you how to do it.
I just ran a quick check at UPS.com, and for $80 you can have a package about the size of 35 cards plus shipping box shipped nearly anywhere in the US by their 'Overnight AM' service (where the receiver gets the package before 10am the next day). I bought around 35 cards from an eBay seller this summer for one of my Heritage sets and shipping was $5. $78 is beyond too much for shipping.
I'd say if you're still going to use roughly the same budget on cards, check out a few of the better know sellers the members of this board frequent, (http://www.bbcexchange.com springs to mind). Maybe buy some unopened boxes and give the packs out to kids. Wouldn't it be nice to see a kid rip open a 1980s pack and get a HOFer's rookie card?
I think I have the same friend....he come up from behind and kicked me in the marbles, when I fell to the ground, he hit me with a garbage can, got back in his car while I lay flat on the road and he ran over me. Must be the same guy.
Not trying to make you feel worse Guru, but isn't it only like a two hour drive between Louisville KY and Indianapolis? You could drive there and back, grab lunch on the way, and still not spend $78.00
As many others have said, this guy is no friend--regardless of how he justifies his shipping prices.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Not to be too contrarion, but this guy has outsourced his Ebay work. He pays for it with handling charges and is upfront about it in his listings. This is pretty typical shipping/handling charges in many other Ebay categories. He is a true moron for not helping out a regular who spends $5K+ per year in his shop over $70. In my opinion he should have eaten this one and advised guru of his business plan and asked him to refrain from bidding in his Ebay auctions.
Okay, I just layed into this guy on the phone about 30 minutes ago. My friends grandfather passed away about 3 weeks ago, so I got him a gift certificate for his shop. He asked him if he could use the certificate on ebay and he told him yes. Today he goes in to pick up the cards and he charges him shipping cost. I had no idea my buddy was going in there or I would have warned him. He ended up walking out and cussing the guy out. It would be cheaper to drive down there and pick them up, but I'm sure he'd still make me pay a fee or something.

I once had a jackass who stated in the auction that he didn't combine shipping. Shipping via media mail was $30 for 26 issues of the Sporting News...I figured that shipping into my bidding and could live with the gouging. When I realized there were 4 more lots of TSN I wanted... the prospect of paying $150 shipping pissed me off. Just the suggestion that the seller reconsider the shipping fees was met with a patronizing referral to the item desscription. Well the issues were too cheap to pass up and I pulled the trigger. Paid each item seperately(via paypal) and used each of my kids college addresses for shipping. I figured I wasn't going to let the seller make money by shipping it all together. After notifying me they were shipped, I innocently double checked to make sure he shipped each lot to the appropriate address. HE WAS PISSED!! Somehow he worked for the post office, was able to rescind the shipment, and refunded my money with the agreement we wouldn't do any more business. Gouging on shipping I can live with..I factor it into my bid. Not combining shipping , however is total BS
Never buy from that clown again- your getting ripped off.
Those are average prices for those cards, don't give that guy all your business because you think his prices are really cheap- look over ebay and you will find similar or probably cheaper prices.
If you bought $100 of cards from me, I'd ship for free every time. John
me too lol- ive bought off guys before that wont combine shippping, so hell with em,they just dont get paid by me,so well both get negatives,it not gonna put a big dent in 38,000 i usually just buy off the same people cause i only buy one thing- i only charge 2.50 to ship a slabbed card, seems the norm on ebay anymore is 4.00!another 60 cents and ya can go pri mail! i hate these people that want to charge you 4.00 for 1st card 1.00 each card after that -i could ship out my 50 bowman set 144 slabbed cards safe and secure for 9.00 flat rate pri mail guaranteed!!!!!alot of rip off artitsout there on shippiong ,either that or some nut wants you to pay their paypal fees, nobody ever pay mine, ive never asked anybody to,im not that cheap! lol
whats wrong with shipping magazines media mail? you can ship a book, but not a sportings news apples and apples. >>
Not media mail nazi but they're NOT the same. If it has advertisements inside it's not media mail (used to be called book rate). Records, dvds, cds, books are media. Magazines, newspapers, cards, bowling balls are not media. USPS is paying a lot more attention and opening a lot more packages because so many people are using media for anything heavy.
<< <i>alot of rip off artitsout there on shippiong ,either that or some nut wants you to pay their paypal fees, nobody ever pay mine, ive never asked anybody to,im not that cheap! lol >>
I seem to remember at one time, eBay had a strick policy of NOT allowing a seller to ask for the buyer to pay the Paypal fees. I had a seller tell me to add that to the cost of an item one time, and I sent him to a link in the eBay policies page where that was pointed out. I told him I would pay them, but as soon as I hit the 'send money' button at Paypal, I'd also send eBay a 'seller complaint' about him gouging me for the fees.
I just got a call from him today apologizing. I asked him if he was going to change the policies and he said no. So, I told him best of luck with his business but I could not ethically shop with him anymore. Here's what I'd like from you guys. PM me a link to your Ebay store and I'll start buying from you guys if you have something that I want. Thanks everyone for the encouragement and kind words.
