Anybody going to the shriners show? (Willmington, MA.)

Just curious if anybody here will be attending this weekend. I have not heard if there will be anybody there signing. Maybe it wont be as good this year seeing that its no longer a Tri-Star show. Hope I can find some 55s though.

Some great auto guests! I will be there grabbing all the 55 topps, Sorry downtown...lol. I have company coming (and the cleaners) on friday so, although I am usually IN THERE by 12:00. Looks like I will go Saturday to gtrab a Duke auto for my 55 topps Brooklyn Dodger On 55 topps cards. That leaves on 3 more to complete the topps team set.

Rip, You dont want any of the 55s I am after. My pathetic PSA 6s would not fit into the scheme of your "better than drugs" set. image
I'll be there on saturday with my cousin who has absolutely no interest in cards. I might as well bring my wife.

Rip, I was just busting your stones. image That Klu was a great pick up. I will be getting an auto from Snider also. I have a 57 Topps Snider that would look great with his auto on it.

I didnt wind up making any progress on my 55 set today. image I didnt wait in line for any autos either. Prices on graded stuff was through the roof. Levi from 707 had a spectacular display as usual, and he was willing to move on his prices if you paid cash. Tons of good raw stuff. I breezed through the show just looking for 55s that I needed, so I wasnt there long.

I had fun browsing but only bought a '56 Topps Jim Gilliam PSA 7 for $30. As I expected there was not much graded Vintage Football out there...

Again Levi had an unmatched amount of stuff set up, absolutly AMAZING. I hung around his tables with my mouth watering and witnessed an older gentleman shell out 40 crisp 100 dollar bills for a PSA 1 '52 Mantle, I would be willing to bet that he must have had over 300K worth of Mantles in his case.
  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,960 ✭✭✭✭✭
Perk, I agree with that figure of 300K. Levi is a pretty down to earth guy. I could have spent hours just looking through his inventory.

Levi also offered me some nice buy prices for some tobaco stuff. I ended up selling to a small deaer who took more items. I sold a few bought a few, just wish I had went on friday. One guy had 30 t'3 but jst down to 4 when I saw him

Just got back from the show. Picked up about 50 -60 high grade raw cards for my sets, and 2 or 3 certified cards, including a nice PSA 1951 Bowman Bob Feller, a card I always liked but could never find a nice one with excellent centering until today.

Overall the show was good. Lots and lots of raw cards, mostly modern with a fair smattering of vitage. Lots of Red Sox stuff. Not much in the way of high grade certifed vintage however; with the exception of Levi, whose display was eye-popping as usual ( I counted 13 PSA certified 1952 Topps Mantles!). Andy Madec had some cards on display from his upcoming auction.

Also was nice to see Willie McCovey, although his health doesn't look too good. Rod Carew was a no-show.

It was annoying on Saturday to see all of the fans swarming Sox players like Bobby Kielty and Clay Buchholz, while HOF'er Duke Snider sat by himself just feet away, no one wanting his autograph. I'm as big of a Sox fan as anyone, but stuff like this annoys me.

More new stuff than there used to be at this show, and not the quantity of vintage like I used to see, so I was disappointed by that.
  • Downtown1974Downtown1974 Posts: 6,960 ✭✭✭✭✭
The prices for autos were nuts. I mean $80 for Clay Bucholz (sp) is just plain ludacris. IMO, no active player should be charging for an autograph. Its the fans that pay their salary.
