Satin/Matte edge Adams dollars... & Coin World??

These are still selling well on eBay (completed sales)

The NGC website has had this up for months: "This next coin (ADAMS) is new to the series. On this coin, the edge lettering die seems to have been inadvertently laser-etched, making the entire edge of the coin appear frosted or matte-like. At first glance, without putting a loop to the coin, the edge appears simply less shiny than normal coins. Magnification of the edge of the coin reveals the lines associated with laser etching. While NGC is not recognizing this the matte edge Adams $1 at this time, we are currently investigating it for attribution."

I have heard that NGC is no longer investigating this... but that the upcoming issue of Coin World will have a BIG article on it....

I don't have a subscription to Coin World, and was wondering if anyone else has any news/info on this??

I sold hundreds of these. Last post i saw here discussing this edge mentioned something about it being the result of dies being cleaned with a wire brush. After viewing hundreds of these under magnification, i would say that is precisely what it is. If you look closely the lines are really not in a uniform pattern and they appear at different angles on different coins. The buyers loved them, but i saw nothing that great about them. One guy bought 100 of them at $7 each.

Definitely a different edge lettering font.......call it laser or matte edge, I kept about 80 of these out of rolls I found double edge inscriptions in...

Certainly seems to be a sub-type edge lettering style, this type of difference would be better calling a Type B edge, rather than the damn upside down inscription....

would someone from PCGS or NGC pick up this variety and tag it as such!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
