So, who's gonna be first on our little block to add Skype buttons to their eBay listings?

Or have some of you already added Skype buttons? Has it been available for coins? Just read on the eBay site that it will soon be available sitewide (general announcements).

Skype is software that lets you make phone calls on your internet connection. Really good for traveling in areas like The Bahamas where there are lots of wireless hotspots but little or no cell phone signals. It's also free, uses unused bandwidth. I think eBay bought Skype last year, not totally sure about that. I'm sure others here know much more about this than me. A much better explanation than mine can be found in howstuffworks.com or the Skype site.

They did buy skype but that cost them on their stick since they paid a buttload for it and are not getting a good ROI for it.
I won't add skype to my listings since I don't want people calling me about it (can you imagine getting a call from Marty or Russ??? No thanks image ).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Ebay is the classic example of a company that just doesn't know when to stop. They have an incredibly profitable core business, so that evidently makes them think they should be buying completely unrelated companies. And they wonder why those acquisitions lose money? Sure, with PayPal and Ebay, we see synergy. But Ebay and an internet phone service? What a joke.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Skype is also compatible with web cams...which means that if someone wanted to see the coin rotated or in differnent light you could. Of course, you need a good web cam.

You can set the program so that you are only "home" at certain times so you dont get "called" all the time.

    What for??

It was great for talking to my son last year while he was in Sweden (web cam too) but I don't see the synergy with ebay or paypal. Perhaps it won't be cheap for much longer?? image

I found Skype to be great for having three-way or even confeence calls but fail to see its usage for eBay.

Besides, if folks saw how ugly I really am, they'd go somewhere else! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I like this idea, this would give potential customers the ability to contact me in real-time. I travel globally very frequently and use Skype several times a day for calling land-lines and mobile numbers internationally. I use the chat feature at least 20-30 times a day to exchange basic information with co-workers. The chat feature is more valuable than the calling in my opinion, you still have the option to throw a coin in front of the web cam while chatting.

I would love to have a potential customer be able to pop an IM to me while I am at work, better customer service than checking My Ebay as I can.
