"Hope everyone who gets my coins could feel happy."

Otoh, his replicas are not of high quality. Still, it DOES offend.

I especially enjoyed the 1889-CC dollar featuring the head of 1921. Very scarce!

I dont see anything wrong with the auctions. He clearly states these are copies and each coin has replica stamped on them. Whats the problem?

The biggest problem I see with his coins is that the word REPLICA is photoshopped onto the coin. It's in the
exact same spot on all of them. Has anyone ever bought one like this and actually seen the word on the coin?

I mentioned this to ebay a couple of months ago but nothing was done. Perhaps they should buy one?

    Hmmmmm,

Edited: Well, maybe it is on the coin, I may be wrong. Hmmmmm

I agree. It's a hell of a lot better than the sellers hawking these Chinese counterfeits as real coins.

How scared are we going to be 10 years from now if the replicas are so good that they can barely be distinguished from the real thing?
  • notwilightnotwilight Posts: 12,864 ✭✭✭
There is quite a legitimate market for replicas and they are being mass produced. Anything that is being mass produced ends up on ebay. --jerry

That is all China has been importing to us for years, why the surprise or fear? The real scary part is, we (along with our pets) are literally eating it up because it's cheap!image

Now their drugs being imported here are tainted as well, so why sweat a copy coin!

    No, it's not.

I find the sheer quantity of replicas he's hawking to be frightening, but otherwise, I see nothin' wrong. He's being straitforward and the coins are marked. More power to 'im.

    I wondered about that.

The scary part is that this kind of thing has apparently won a kind of widespread acceptance that has been previously unknown. I suppose a mint error with these things might be a piece that gets out without a "REPLICA" or "COPY" stamp. Exciting stuff when you think about the possibilities for a little while.

Anybody out there reading this who is a replica collector/speculator, I have one word for ya this Halloween day....

    Boo

  • Thats not scary (does say replica)....this is scary... one of these were sent to ANACS to find out how it was made and came back struck copy.

They don't seem to be doing anything against eBay policy! And you can't hold them responcible for what the buyer does with an unstamped replica!

"collecting replica coins or cars or furniture is a perfectly respectable hobby"

Oh I suppose it is dorkkarl. However,I really do question the motives of some of the sellers of the "exact-size" replica coins that one can see offered for sale on ebay, for example.Having said that, if the things look cheesy enough, without talking about whether "replica" or "copy" is on the piece,I can give a vote of respectable.

Recently, I saw an auction for "exact-size" replica 1909 SVDB with which one can fill the hole in their Lincoln cent album. Lincoln has an unquestionably curious and unfamiliar expression on his face on this replica. In addition, the hair looks kind of funky. Now,that's the kind of cheese I'm talking about.image
