What the heck happened to this half dime?

This is unquestionably the most beat up, mangeled and horribly disfigured half dime I've ever laid eyes on. I'm sure it could tell us all a good story or two. At least the seller is up front about it being a dog lol. I'm not even going to try to attribute it while at work, without my books but I'm almost positive the coin is still attributable. Maybe one of the half dime geeks that has their materials handy can give it a shot...

I'd send it ANACS and see what all they put on the label. I'd drill a hole in it and clean it first.

There appears to be a hole on both sides where part of the coin is broken off. Could it have been used as a button at one time? Or maybe is was a jewelry piece.
