Silvertown auctions

Has anyone bought coins at auction from Silvertown (until recently I didn't know they even held coin auctions).

Any experiences good, bad or inbetween? I see they are doing the auction at the MSNS show in Dearborn next month

  • I received their catalog yesterday. Some of the estimated prices appear to be on the high side. I have never experienced one of their auctions either.

If it's at MSNS, then it's a consignment auction, and not the inventory of Silvertowne. Silvertowne may just be donating an auctioneer to do the auction for MSNS.

I have bought some bullion coins from them at some excellent prices on Ebay. They don't take Paypal but you can call them and pay by Credit Card.

That sounds like a plausible explanation.

OK, this one's easily answered by looking at SilverTowne's home page where it says that We are taking consignments through September. my understanding is that for whatever reason(s) Whitford decided to remove himself from the MSNS Show and SilverTowne will be doing at least the next several shows. i suggest anyone interested in getting the catalog re-think that and just go to the website and view what's available.

BTW, Whitford will still be doing an auction earlier in November in the Lansing area. if you have beem to their previous MSNS auctions i'm sure you'll agree that some of the items are worthwhile and the "prices realized" make attending a good idea.

I won a NGC PF 70 2003 AGE set from them in 04 for $1100. Sold it this year for $1800. They have some good deals, though I have not bought from them since.
