Oh my, am I unhappy. Altered surfaces my azz. Makes you wonder what political game one has to play to get the proper grade.

That is the ultimate slap in the face, but I learned the hard way. I spent an hour picking out the best seated specimen I could find that I knew would not bag. It came back an XF-45. Man I sweated hard trying to find a Seated coin that was "unmessed with" They are harder to come by then you can imagine. I am not surprised if this quarters free submissions do not create a high % in BB's. Don't take it too hard.

Altered Surfaces can mean many things, but in this instance it means "Try Again"

On a second look, perhaps the hairlines in the right obverse field caused it to bag. On average, NGC seems to be a tad more tolerant of hairlines than PCGS. It still looks like a nice coin that should be holdered. I'd probably send it back to NGC.

One of "those" things - no obvious reason, to me, why that shouldn't slab.

I've been noticing that any amount of hairlines, no matter how small, means 'bodybag' from PCGS. They will call it 'cleaned', altered surfaces' what have you. Doesn't really matter.

Personally, I think they are being much too strict when it comes to this.
