Lincoln Cent - Any thought as to what caused this ?

No noticble damage to the obverse. No significant damage or indentation. The bump rises smoothly from the surrounding fields. You also see weekness in the devices surrounding the bump. The edge of the "E" is not raised whatsoever.

    If it's a genuine error, it's most likely a die dent or an interior die break. However, it could also be metal that was added after the fact. It will be difficult to arrive at a definitive conclusion due to the worn condition of the coin.
