  • I have a similar camera, a canon A550. Curious as to your setup and the camera settings you used on the silver and the copper.

    Great pictures by the way!!!

Yeah, maybe a little. I had some lighter ones, but I liked the detail on this one.

(edited) Plus now that I'm looking at the pics at work I think my monitors at home are set a little bright, making me think the images are lighter than they are

A570 on a copy stand, positioned 11" (28cm, the closest distance you can get full zoom, which is 2cm better than Canon advertises)

2 OTT lights. (used to run 4, but with the tighter macro with zoom with the 570, it seems I can get the effect I want with just 2 since I can get the lights below the camera image )

I position the lights/rotate the coin for the effect I want (best show of color, shadows where I want them, deep dark mirrors on proofs), then I open F stop as wide as it'll go at full telephot optical zoom (4x at 5.5), and then adjust shutter speed as tight as I can to get the exposure I want.

that is a really great shot, regardless.

it's not too dark imho. do you monkey (no pun intended spacemonkey) with photoshop or other programs?

thanks. But I still have to work on getting rid of that "reflection doubling" (look at the "In God We Trust"). It's impossible to see it's there on the camera LCD, and even blown up to 20" monitor size it's easy to miss until you see it in the picture

    Incredible!

  • Oh yeah!.....I've always known that a pocket cam can take lovely pictures. I think most may not realize exactly what their pocket cams are capable of these days.

Good job. I've been saying for a few months that the A570IS is the best bargain in digital photography right now. It's cheap and it just about has it all.

  • The picture is looking even better with the red out of it. Proofs can be tough to capture and keep the reflections out.

Very nice. A little dark but very nice. More power to the little cameras.
