JSA authenticated Emmitt auto. What do you think?

Hoping LMM will weigh in on this one. This Emmitt Smith autograph doesn't even look close to me, so I was surprised to see JSA authenticated it. What say ye' jurors of CU?

The sig looks somewhat real, but those don't look like Emmitt's "2"s

Unless whoever had it signed asked him to make it a huge sig, I have never seen one that large on a helmet.

The 22 looks like someone else did it. Granted signing a helmet is probably tough.

    I wouldnt buy it.

If it was authenticated by Spence & Co. I'd have no problem buying it .

They went through a lot of time and trouble authenticating a piece for me and it did not just have to pass just one person looking at it , it had to pass through many , it took a few weeks but finally got the LOA .

Not that I was worried in the least that it was a legit piece , but it just shows they do do their homework and do not just slap a LOA on anything they get .

I actually have a few signed jerseys with JSA and think they are creditable. Though this piece makes me think otherwise.

The surface of the helmet is very smooth , unlike a jersey or a football or anything else players sign , I can definitely see signatures comming out a little bit different than they normaly would on a different item , especially using this type of writing implement .

The hand seems to glide a little more than it normally would on a surface such as the helmet .

I see no problem with it at all , it is legit and if JSA stuck his seal of approval on it , It's as good as gold , if not better .

I agree if JSA authenticates it you should be good to go.

The certification number on the helmet leads here: Link
The cert. number on the LOA shown leads here: Jeter jersey
Possible explanations for both, but certainly worth asking some questions.

I have three Emmitt sigs in my collection, and the 2's are not his. My first and last are seven years apart, and all three look nearly the same. Those look nothing like it. The name part is tough. I don't have a helmet in my colletion, but this is pretty similar to Emmitt. I don't think I have seen anything by him before though that was signed that big.

The authenticated the signature right? not the 22's.............

The "E" looks different than the two autos I have of him. One on a card and the other on an 8x10 from his 2nd year in the league. The "mmitt" looks weird too, but the giant "T" at the end and the "Smith" look legit. I've never noticed an "x" in the sig though. The 22 definitely is not from him. He makes one large and one smaller. Very distinct.

This item having a james spence sticker stuck to it means nothing.

Anybody notice the LOA has a different serial number than the sticker on the helmet?

    I still wouldnt buy it.

Spence is human and humans make mistakes. I believe this in one of them if in fact he even authenticated it.

Even if that thing is real, *cough,* it's so hideous that I wouldn't want it in my collection.

Just attended a card show yesterday and I saw an Emmit Autograph on both a helmet and jersey where the 2's looked exactly the same as the Helmet on the attached link. The guy selling the goods is legit, and I have bought from him before.

Buy the helmet, it is real!

This is a real Emmitt auto.

The "2's" look nothing like that helmet. I really don't think he put those there, and since he charges upwards of $200 for any inscription, it is unlikely someone paid extra for his numbers.

Plus, for $199 it's a great deal. He charges $250+ for mini's. image

Some of you need to do some reading up on James Spence. He is far from perfect and there are plenty of stories out there that make me doubt him and anyone else who authenticates autographs.

    I dont have an a$$.

I have an ass and it's never been kicked. My wife says its quit nice but that's besides the point.

The picture was not making fun of the pres. Its was meant to poke fun at your incoherent ramblings.

Dont be so quick to start with the insults and it probably would help if you put the bottle down for the night
