Do I have a 1969 S DDO?

jessewvujessewvu Posts: 5,065 ✭✭✭✭✭
I found this at the top of a roll of Coins I opened to take pictures of for another post. Well, after looking at the picture, I noticed it didn't look right. Does anyone know what I have and if it is worth anything? I have 11 identical rolls that this came out of that I haven't looked through. The coins below are identical, I just moved the light for each picture.

i think the term for this coin is "shelf doubling" which appears to be
very slight. i can be wrong though!

send it in under the cheapest tier. It doesnt hurt to try and if it comes back a DD $$$.

Put it back so some YN can have the opportunity to find a relatively minor (50¢) error coin.

Definitely not a DDO...Coin World had some really good photos on the cover just recently...

Sure it hurts to pay a grading fee to find out you have a 50¢ coin. That isn't the DDO.

Better photos would help. I sure would like to see the date and mint mark in a close up.

my crappy Sony Cyber Shot 3.2 Meg pix doesn't get any better than that. image But she has served me well for 6 years! I still can't see the "mechanical" double when I hold it in my hand. I did a google search on 1969 S DDO and found out the difference .Link

Put it on eBay. Be sure to mention the doubling.image

Here are a couple of pics from the CONECA website. If you have an actual 69S DDO, it will scream at you.

It will be be very obvious if you posses this specimen, the doubling is extreme. Good luck searching

the 1969-s is notorious not only for the rare ddo, but also for the number of machine doubled coins. that is what you have. sorry, but no rare find this time around!

No. Not even the Die #2 variety (i.e. strong spread but weak doubling on upper first 96 of date).

In fact, even as machine doubled coins go, I've seen some that looked WAY more "doubled" than that. Even had one at one time that was slabbed as the real thing.

Problem was, even the mintmark was doubled (an incontrevertible indicator that it is NEITHER Die #1 NOR Die #2).
