Celebs or Atheletes that are collectors?

Who are some well know people that are collectors of cards or memorabilia. I don't really know of any celebs other than atheletes. I know that Dmitri Young is a big time collector. I know that former pitcher Dan Schatzeder is a collector. I also know that former player Frank Thomas (the one from teh 50's) is a collector. Anybody else?

  • I think I remember reading that Tom Pagnozzi (sp?), I believe a former catcher for the Cardinals or Reds, was a collector also.

From what I understand, Thomas has a large collection of Game Used from the '50s and '60s. He lets some of it go from time to time. I don't know of any more than you know of though.

Keith Olbermann is an avid collector of Topps products.

(he bought some 2002 Topps 206 duplicates from me back around the time they were still new)

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

The thread is regarding "celebs" and "athletes," neither of which applies to Olbermann. His show is so sad, I really feel sorry for him.

SMR had an article a few months back on the Nationals catcher Brian Schneider and his collection. Pretty cool...
  • I'm pretty sure David Wells collects..........

Patrick Roy was/is an avid card collector and supposedly has one of the finest vintage hockey card collections on the planet.

Candiotti was profiled in SMR a couple of years ago. He's got quite an impressive collection.

Chili Davis collected game used when he was playing but I don't know if he's active.

As mentioned above, both Dmitri Young and David Wells have massive collections. Wells has a collection of game used bats in a special room of his home. Caught a short video of him in his "bat room"...uses white gloves to hold the bats from some of the most famous ever in the game.

Also caught a brief video of Dmitri Young. He owns the only 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente PSA 10...saw him holding it in his hand. He keeps them in boxes. I'd have to have that one on display under some kinda of serious protection. This is probably a $75k+++ card.

I believe Charlie Sheen owns the infamous Billy Buckner "wicket" ball from the 1986 debacle. I'd rather not remember that night.

I think he might have sold that when he got in trouble during the Heidi Fleiss thing. I could be wrong but it's Sunday morning and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Edited: OK, it was bugging me so I had to look it up.

Sheen paid $93,500 in 1992 and sold it last year through Lelands for ~$63,000 bought by artist/author/songwriter/apparent jack of all trades Seth Swirsky (no, I never heard of him either but he's obviously got a TON of money.)

  • Mike Ditka is or was a big collector of CAPS.....

Rhino loved Pete Rose and got plenty stuff, also

  • David Wells trying to wear a Babe Ruth hat in a game was cool
