1958 topps baseball empty box

hey guys, new user here, ive watched and read EVERY forum for months and im a big time collector of baseball cards from 1909 to 1973. anyways with that being said, i have a 1958 topps box completely intact that i dont know what to do with, and im not to sure of its value, id give it a 5 on a 1 to 10, theres no writing on it or anything. do you know anyone who would be interested in even buying or trading some vintage cards for this, thanks again guys, im sure ill be posting alot on here in the upcoming months

    Welcome to the board Justin

I'd just like to see a pic of it - sounds like a cool item
  • yah, im gonna take a picture of it, i gotta wait for my girlfriend to bring back the camera tonight. i just dont want it to get 2 dollars on ebay and i know nobody would pay tons of money for just a box (although ive never seen one before). i just dont see much of a market for it

You'd be surprised. Describe it accurately on eBay and you should get some strong bids.

Recently a single 1953 5¢ wrapper fetched northwards of $600. Your empty box might not fetch that, but it certainly would do better than $2.

It all depends on what somebody is willing to pay. If someone collects 58' Topps and would like the box he may give you a fair price. I know I collect some sets where I needed and wanted to have a opened wrapper and box.

To give some perspective on '58s, for a '58 5-cent wrapper I've paid about $45 on eBay in the past. I would expect to pay more for a decent '58 box, intact/not crushed/torn, etc.

I'll give you $3 for it. Hurry, before the GF gets home.

  • hey, yah i just looked and saw a box in psa 8 just went for a little over 500 in psa 8, which i guess on there box standards would make it a psa 3 or so, i do have a question though, i scanned it, and it takes the photo to my scans, i try to attach the file and it does nothing, any clue how to fix this.

Tranfer the pics to photobucket. Then copy and paste to image thing in the reply box.

A box in PSA 8? PSA doesn't grade boxes. GAI 8 is possible though, as global grades them.

Is it a nickel box or a penny pack box? I'd certainly be interested depending on which one, and I'm sure a few others will be as well.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • its a nickle box, i didnt mean psa, i just for some reason automatically think psa when i think of grading (thats a good thing i guess)
  • if anyone is interested in a trade for some old cards than im possibly up for it, i cant get the stupid thing to load, but if you have an email then ill email you the pic, since im new, if someone who has a good reputation around here is interested, ill send it first (seems only the right thing to do). im hoping the nickle box is worth more than the penny

Keep at it - goose is a cool guy and will post it for you if you can get it down to size.

Do you have any kind of photo editing program you can use to crop the image, or otherwise get the file size down?

With that feedback you will only get about 50% to 75% of what a seller with solid feedback would get for it. I thought about buying it so that I would scoop up the money your feedback will surely leave on the table, but that feedback history shows that I may not receive it. LOL
  • just showing the link, 3 people asked for it but theres no need to bring up feedback. im thrilled with 96.3 feedback, i get awesome money for my stuff (so far atleast). but i got the box for 5 bucks, so really, it doesnt matter what it goes for now i guess, after all, if someone wants a 96.3 percent chance at a 1958 box than hopefully they will bid (big hopefully) later guys

I agree, I'm leary of the feedback as well. But, on the other hand, this is a piece of cardboard, not an electronic game. This piece of cardboard, as pictured, is obviously not in pristine condition, so I wouldn't be too concerned about this item. I would be concerned though, if I thought I might need customer service with this item. Basically what I'm saying is that all I need the seller to do is ship the item to me. I don't have to worry about DOA or its condition.

I think people are talking about the fact that you don't respond to emails or offer refunds for broken games. It doesn't really matter what you're selling as long as you tell the truth about the item and offer decent customer service. 96.3% is a pretty bad ebay rating and 7 negs is a high tally for less than 200 transactions. Your box would have gone for $200+ if you were around 99% which is where most of the guys on this board are. Just something you might want to think about in the future.

  • i disagree, simple math would say the same, 96.3 percent chance of everything being fine and it hacks off 60 percent off what it should, i dont i did unbelievable. but what is really sad about these boards, is i had 3 offers. THE HIGHEST BEING 30, and thats before anyone knew i even had an ebay account. So whats even worse than my feedback is that people wrote me offering 20 dollars, and had the nerve to say that that is more than fair. No offense to most of you, but dont write me trying to straight up lie about the value of something when you know what your telling me is crap. That box would have not got for 200 dollars if bill gates and warren buffet got into a nuclear ebay war for it in my opinion.
  • disregard that "i dont i did part" i was typing an IM and it got typed on here accidentally, later

To put it another way, if a seller does not meet at least 95% feedback over a 90 day period, his account will be suspended by ebay for violating their seller non-performance policy:

eBay requires sellers to maintain minimum standards in buyer satisfaction. Our goal is to ensure that the marketplace is a safe and reputable place for the community to buy and sell. We have found that 1% of eBay sellers are responsible for 35% of bad buyer experiences on eBay. This not only impacts buyers, but is harmful to other sellers and the eBay marketplace as a whole.

Sellers receiving this notification have been identified as part of this bottom 1% of sellers as measured by Feedback and Item Not Received complaints over the past 90 days. If more than 5% of a seller/s buyers are dissatisfied, as measured by negative and neutral Feedback left or Item Not Received complaints during a 90 day period, the seller is in violation of the Seller Non-Performance policy.

If all your transactions happened in a 90 day period, you would be dangerously close to being suspended by ebay for being a crappy seller. If you ran a small business and 4% of your clients were dissatisfied, you would not be in business long.
