07 mint sets

I have been reading posts, saying how terrible the 07 mint sets are.
I got mine this morning. And just opened the first 1 of 10.

Boy it looks GREAT to me. I wouldn't say they are 100% mark free. But TERRIBLE,,, NO.

Maybe it was a good thing, I didn't get some of the first sets shipped after all.

  • I haven't had problems with spots but after getting so many high grade coins the last couple years I may have become spoiled. I have yet to find any of the dollars that look like they would grade above an MS67. imho.

    AHHHHH,,That could be very true.
I can't say. I can say that I'll be happy to spread this set out in my albums. I wasn't sure I would want to from the posts I had seen.

I kind of agree with your sentiment on the Mint sets, about how over the last so many years they kept on getting better and better, and now this junk they released.

These are terrible! I sent back five of five and as I stated in another post I had a large fat black spot as big as a Sharpie pen on the reverse of one of the cents along with huge scratches dings and dents on nearly all of the coins. It was the first time I ever returned and item to the Mint.

I hope the next batch will be better.
Sure, we want to go home. We want this war over with. The quickest way to get it over with is to go get the bastards who started it. The quicker they are whipped, the quicker we can go home. - General George S. Patton
  • I got mine yesterday. Not the best I've ever seen, but they are good. No spots. image
  • my couple of sets are all over the place. I ended up keeping my mint sets, but the Silver Proof set was awful. Mainly the JFK and Jeff were really dinged up. That is going back. What I really don't like is the fact that these mint sets are really tough to open up and get the coins out to put into my albums. It used to be so easy. Oh yeah, I had two Utah quarters in one of my mint sets. They were just in the same slot with each other. Was from the Philadelphia mint. Wish I had seen that before I took the scissors to the set to break em out.

Any opinions on long term storage in the Mint plastic? I haven't seen anything regarding what the containers are made of. Hopefully, no PVC is involved.image
