Typical politcian...takes all the credit...

I've written about 30 letters since the middle of last July on behalf of our coin club to various elected officals and governments entities about including Chief Standing Bear as one of the designs for the new Sac reverse program.

Then suddenly, last week, our local paper has an article about how one of Nebraska's congressman had this great idea about putting Standing Bear on the dollar. Interestingly enough, one paragraph of the congressman's press release was almost word for word from the letter I had written 3 1/2 months earlier. But, no mention of our club's involvement at all. But, I thought ot myself, at least the idea was getting traction and imitation is the highest form of flattery. Right?

Then today I saw Numismatic News had a similar article about the congressman's push for Standing Bear to be one of the design choices and again no mention of our club's involvement and efforts on behalf of this issue. Article from Numismatic News (The link isn't to NN, but a site that carried the article)

I guess I shouldn't be complaining but, a little recognition for our work wouldn't hurt either, would it? image

Don't fret. Achieving a goal often requires letting a decision-maker believe that he came up the idea himself. He'll fight harder for what you want if he thinks he owns the idea.

Perhaps a letter to your congresscritter stating, simply, "You're welcome," along with a newspaper clipping and copy of the letter you sent him would be appropriate.

There can't be two headed designs is what I thought I read in the legislation. Unless he is depicted on a horse or something. I could be wrong. Any one chime on in this.

  • If you or someone else lets me know this congressman's name and phone nr. I'll call him/her
and ask what his/her problem is. I like calling up people and getting them all tounge tied.

Would you expect any less from a Republican?

    This is true.

Now, since you know it was your club's idea and he knows it, maybe you can get something like input on the design process or recognition at the striking ceremony

Do you still have a copy of the letter you mailed to this lowlife?

Mail it to the reporter for NN or scan it and email it to them.
