Didn't wanna get me no trade
Never want to be like papa
Working for the boss every night and day
--"Happy", by the Rolling Stones (1972)
My library is not more than 10-20 books so my full library occupies more space in my heart than my bookshelf.
Matching set of Noyes and Wright Middle Date books done by Alan Grace in full black morocco, top edges gilt,
marbled endpapers, raised-bands and gilt lettering...
But, for pure research value, I would rather have a chewed up card cover version so as to allocate funds to other resources.
Of course, if you can collect a whole set of books like that, then by all means have at it.

But for practical research, I have to agree with Coinosaurus. I'd be too afraid of messing these books up to use them!
nor my pennies...except maybe a Crosby or Andrews... I just enjoy...
Fortunately in our domain we have quite a few reprint editions to choose from. An original Crosby is a wonderful thing, but for $40 you can get a fine reprint and not worry in the slightest about dinging it up. I even like my Loubat reprint, even though Charley Davis absolutely despises the thing
