1964 Proof-69 DCAM (PCGS).

Tied for finest certified by PCGS. Heavily frosted motifs and deeply mirrored fields form a generous cameo contrast, a relatively scarce occurrence on 1964 Kennedy half dollars.

PCGS Population: 69; none finer within the designation.

From the Waccabuc Collection. Acquired from Heritage, May 2005.

That's no 69 IMO. Unless all the "blemishes" are on the holder?

I think that the scratches appearing in the images are on the holder.

I bet the coin looks way better in hand than it does in the picture.

However, the picture shows a blemish to the left of JFK's nose. This blemish makes me question a 69 grade p[though it may have arisen post slabbing]. The picutre also shows numerous white flecks in the fields (metal flow lines?) that detract from the deep, watery, black appearance of the fields. I know that on close examination all proofs have these flow lines, but if they are as prominent on the coin looking at it in hand as they appear to be in the picture, I would have difficulty agreeing with a 69 grade (like my "opinion" counts for muchimage).

Probably a nice coin, but a 69?... I doubt it.

My 68DCAM spare is better. This coin has a brown spot in front of his nose and a white milk spot above the I in Libert. My 68DCAM has a small white milk spot on the serif of the Y. My 69 DCAM is definitely better. BUT, it IS very possible this spot occured after the slabbing. Probably still a nice coin, but, not a 69DCAM right now.

So it is not so rare in this grade. image
