Question for the Bust Half People

I just purchased an XF 1813 Bust Half that is an O-107 R-4 variety. It seems that the O-107 is apparently much tougher than the O-107a state. I was just wondering if the 1813 O-107 commands any premium at all as an R-4? Thanks in advance!

This might be bad news to you, but in the name of education here are the updated rarity ratings by the BHNC......Rarity ratings

Hmmm.....I got my info from the Parsley book. It must be outdated already. It had the O-107 as an R-4 and the O-107a as an R-1. Oh well, I just found it while attributing some newly purchased halves.

  • The R1 rating is for the die marriage, while the R4 rating is for the prime die state. However, the prime die state is far, far rarer than R4. If you have a 13 107 w/absolutely no trace of any die cracks or clash marks, it is probably high R6. I have only seen three in the years that I have been interested in the series.

Next issue- is it worth a premium? Perhaps, but remember the qualifier- no trace whatsoever of clashmarks or cracks. You will still see the die scratch thru the curls and upper ribbon, though. How about some pics?
