I'm not too worried about it. I send an invoice out when the auction ends, and then 4 days later. I accept paypal, it's not like he has to put a check in the mail. I think it would at least be common courtesy to respond. I'm pretty sure if I waited 5 days to ship the item after recieving payment that the buyer wouldn't be too happy.

Probably 3 or 4 times a month the first think I hear from an ebay buyer is the check showing up in the mail a week or two later. --Jerry

Ditto.

Ditto again. In fact, I have a couple regular buyers who never respond to invoices. Their payment just shows up.

He may not have contacted you, but that doesn't mean he didn't put a check in the mail as soon as he got your first invoice.

Double ditto. I have one buyer who has bought close to three hundred items from me over the past year or so, who has only sent an email to me once in all that time.
And, just because you accept paypal does not mean he/she has to use it unless you specify so in your auctions (e.g. paypal only). Maybe the buyer does not wish to use paypal in fear of having bank information stolen.

Good point. some customers would be fine, others complain if you don't ship same day. The internet and eBay in particular has made customer's expectations much higher. That's what makes the retail business tough. Just remember, the customer is always right. --jerry

It's really that easy.

There's no doubt sending an email like that is easy. Thing is- even though you'd like them to, some people still won't do it.
Sometimes I email the seller ect. The package arrives the next day.
Then I get a feedback, but never once did I get a response from the seller.
It's just the way it is.
Just send out emails and be patient.

OK. You have the assignment to train everybody with and ebay ID. Go for it.
When an initial invoice, or a follow up invoice with a personal note, or a follow up email requesting some kind of communication is left unanswered one is left to feel, as I am currently feeling in my own position from a sale of my own last week, that despite a person's feedback rating or history, they are being purposely evasive. Human nature. Couple that with a sizable financial committment and a soup of discontent is born.
I don't have a sizable e-business. My larger world does not absorb these little thorns. Just Communicate and I will be at peace.
<< <i>I think two invoices in 4 days is a bit excessive. Be more patient. There have been plenty of times I've sent invoices with no response. A few days to a week or so later, a check arrives in the mail.

That is the only method of payment I accept.

As the seller, you can do this, just use the "contact buyer" or whatnot, at Ebay.
If he is from one of the fire areas (San Diego, etc) it may be the reason and then it is up to you to give him slack or not.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>Just a quick upadate.........It's been 9 days now, and this was for a paypal only auction. I have not received a papal payment, or a check in the mail (which was not a payment method I listed anyway.) I've sent two freindly reminder emails and both have gone unanswered. I will let it go until 14 days and then file a non-paying bidder claim, so I can recoup my fees.

Deadbeat wannabee buyer. File a NPB report with eBay and move on. Neg him and relist the item. Don't be afraid to neg him as these type of bidders should be exposed. One point I would add......make sure you list in your auction when you expect payment. I also ask buyers to follow eBay checkout or email their method of payment after the auction. 9 days is BS and i would not expect to get paid from this person.
Shortly after (maybe about 10 days to 2 weeks after the auction), got a email from the buyers' son, on the buyers' email account, responding to my messages, that his father had had a mild heart attack, had emergency surgery, and was STILL hospitilized......
Of course I gave him the option of consumating the deal or opting out (which was his ultimate decision).... My point being that I was fortunate in finding out what had happened...... What if he didn't ask his son to check his emails, or if he had no family to follow through.....
If he had a good feedback rating, with nothing to cause concern, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for a while...... You can always get his contact information fro ebay and call him........
On the other hand, people DO have emergencies, get sick, even die..... there's not much you can do about that, nor really expect them to contact you in some of those cases.....
Too often, I also have people that do not respond to my invoice(s), and then 2-5 days later, I get a "request for total due"........ And SOMETIMES I've even received a read receipt for the message.....
thanks
"Sorry, not able to send payment. The day I won I lost my job."
What would you do in this case. My plan was to not Neg the bidder, but file a non paid claim to recoup my fees. At this point, I'm wondering if I should just eat the fees, and relist the coin.

I've just finished up my last cycle of selling items that became my worst outcome ever on ebay. I lsold 8 items, 2 buyers have not responded in 3 wks, a third was a week late to say he put a ck in the mail, it hasn't shown up in the last 2 wks. This has been the VERY worst in my experience.
I don't know why. I have an idea though. I changed my terms to not accepting paypal above $200. I have a feeling that the buyers didn't read my terms, and then once I sent the Invoices they realized it.
I'm sorry, but I'm tired of paying 2%+ on large amounts that drain me. Why are people so stinking lazy they can't pay by other means.
After 3 wks, I've lost my patience. I just filed NPB and will follow it up with negative feedback to the loosers.

Maybe we could all take up a collection and send him a basket of food to help him over the rough times.

In fact, I am waiting for the complete guide to Mercury dimes from a seller right now. It has been over 2 weeks since the end of the auction. How does it take 2 weeks to mail something?I paid you and I want my mechandise. Period.

I know how you feel but stuff does get misdirected in the mail. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt because it has happened to me twice.
Sent a guy (I have been buying proof sets from privately) a check and after about two weeks I emailed him and asked him why the sets hadn't shipped. He said he never got my check. I started doubting myself whether or not I actually sent the check. Was on the verge of doing a stop payment on the check. I immediately did a papal payment to him(we were trying to keep paypal fees out of the transaction).
I told him if the check came to please send it back to me. A couple of weeks later the check arrived and he sent it back to me. It took 4 weeks for the check to travel less than 400 miles. It happens!
I had another incident like that but just to let you know it does happen sometimes. You can usually tell a lot about a person by their feedback. Speaks volumes.
I still know where you are coming from though.

Me, personally? Buyer/seller agree not to complete deal (get back FVF, right?) then just eat the listing fees.
If he is lying, he has enough problems to lie about something like that.
If he is telling the truth, he has enough problems in his life and my life is a little bit better so I would just eat the listing fees.
