81727140 to 81727337 many many 10's?????

first of all i did not discover this colle system did so i did not want to take credit, but i do feel that his findings deserve a post of its own.

it appears that psa certs # 81727140 to 81727337 have a Huge majority of 10's. i did not look them all up but all but one that i checked came up a 10.

since grades usually go in order to the same customer or group of customer something just doesn't look right to me. i am not paranoid, i just think that an oliver stone movie could be in the making on this topic.

i would love to see some other cards in this group to see if there was any other "generous" grading.

i do wish a PSA rep would come on this board to explain to us how this happens.

thanks

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

That would be nice, but do you really think that will happen? Not a chance! It will get swept under the rug and nobody will even think about it in a couple of weeks. Or better yet, this thread will go "poof" come Monday morning. Mistakes happen, but 197 of them in a row? I started a thread (see link) on a similiar topic the other day and there were a few responses, but not one answer to my question and it kind of got off topic. I guess everybody just laughed becasue they thought something like this could never happen. Well it has! The PSA sympathizers will continue to be brainwashed, this won't bother them at all and they'll continue to send in their cards. This doesn't bother any of you set registry guys? Then again, why blame PSA for this when it's really all the seller's fault for selling the cards, right?

    mike,
you've got a long way to go but unreal at the run of 10s and 9s when you get into the early 70s on this one.

    Thanks,

You guys have way too many conspiracy theorists here. I would bet good money they do these in the same manner as the coins are done when submitted in bulk. The computer systems are setup so that all of the same grade print out on one submission number and are printed together when bulk is involved. The one that is a 9 was changed after the card was encapsulated by the quality control grader who must have saw something to knock it down to a 9.

I was planning to put together this list through the night...just for $hit$ and giggles...like I said, this smells kinda fishyimage
  • Check the box marked "Minimum Grade requested" and put 10. Voila, a sub with no 9's.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

    mosaic,
good point. i tried that with a 100 card lot of 81t basketball (m/g 9) and almost half came back unholdered with one 10....ouch.

    Thanks,

Good point mosaic...didn't really even consider that. I know that the submission number changes, but, unless it is holdered, the sequence should run pretty straight through on the cert #....

My hand is tired anyway from typing all of those cert #'s....image
  • There was a run of 8141.... 1993 Refractors (like 20 Griffeys, several Ripkens, etc. etc.) ---- I believe it was around 175-200, where the % of PSA 10s was over 99% (i.e., only 1-3 PSA 9s were handed out and the rest were PSA 10s).

It was a submission by wcsports1
  • I don't see a conspiracy here at all, just paranoi
I have a box of 1991/92 OPC Hockey that I just opened.
If I had the bucks to submit the entire box, I bet that 527 of the 528 cards would all come out as PSA 10
    They are completely mint.

So, open any box, submit the cards fresh and I bet the same happens, which may very well be the same story here.
  • torc - welcome to the boards but there is no chance opening any box from the 80's would give you all 10's! 2/3 of the box would be OC

    Uhmm..my bad image
I didn't think of that, well so much for my 1st post
Thanks for the welcome, I have been reading these boards for quite some time now, just never thought to register or voice an opinion.

That being said, I get alot of info from these boards, and appreciate all the input from everyone.
This board has saved me a ton of cash, just in the people that have brought forward the fakes and scams to watch for, and for that I am truely appreciative.

Thanks everyone for keeping me informed.

Welcome to the boards. Now that you are registered and have a voice, grab a shovel and get to work. Reading is fine, but contributing is welcomed/expected too.

I think that M/G 10 explanation is probably what happened here, but it would be nice to know for sure. I guess it would be useful to look at how 9s correlate against raw sales for those cards. If there's no upside, that would make sense...

further goes to support my theory that graded cards are a 'now' thing and will be mostly worthless in the near future......Gems are being given to cards no better than 8 FAR too often....almost seems like a reward to repeat submitters. this example sickens me, as i really hoped the graded card 'fad' would be a lasting hobby saver, as the internet has driven values down consistently. i am certainly reassured that submitting beautiful cards that have been lovingly hand-picked for grading is a WASTE of time AND money.........this thread (along with the Killebrew PSA 10 thread) finds me with irrevocable lost love for the hobby.......shame

you can use M/G on non-crossovers.

Choose to continue to ignore me, but this is not some super secret insider info, someone should ask Joe at the next luncheon to verify all of this. All of this same exact conspiracy and wild theories(you guys are just missing a little more dealer bashing on how all of those 10 subs are for the favorite dealers only so far) to what the coin guys discovered 5 or so years ago.

Here's how it works: Usually large dealer(cause they have more money and cards or access to cards obviously) contacts Joe or already has an agreement from previous deals, which I don't have the exact numbers and it varies, say $3 for a 9 and $6 for a 10 or something similar, sends in huge group of cards, say all 1975-present football. They obviously aren't going to fill out a line by line submission form, just a basic year-by-year breakdown, say 1975 topps football 1,000 1986 topps football 5,000, and so on and put minimum grade 9 or whatever the minimum they set is. The cards are graded and given back to a worker to enter into the computer at this time. It is broken down by grades cause that is how they are given to them by the graders after separating all the grades to encapsulate and the ones that didn't make it are packaged to be shipped back raw. Separating the cards by grade, other than making obvious sense, is also easier after being entered into the computer to charge dependent on the grade. So that's how you end up with one submission filled with all 10's or mostly 10's, as I said earlier, the quality control grade(that is the one done after the card is encapsulated) is where you see the one 9 or few 9's in a huge batch of 10's in a row. And somewhere out there, there is also another huge batch of cards out there with all 9's that goes along with this sub of only 10's. I would be really shocked if anyone is allowed, other than perhaps a few "special" deals done that are allowed by Joe for a minimum 10 grade.
