I think it is time to relieve the US of the 1 Cent Piece by 2009.
Replace it with a 2 Cent Piece.
With 2009 coming up, the government could redesign the 1 Cent Piece into a 2 Cent Piece.
Just a word out to everyone.
Thanks,
Chris

<< <i>I like being able to pay the exact amount due. I think any monetary system that requires you to round up or down is a monetary system administered by idiots. This is America. We don't have to round things off like some half-assed third world country. >>
When was the last time you paid that .9 cents for a gallon of gas?

Tell that to the IRS!

A sneaky way of raising prices. How about a 1/2 cent piece?

Another note, then make 2009 the last year of issue for the 1 Cent Piece.
Thanks,
Chris
They have have 4 new reverses, original metal content versions and more planned for 2009 Lincoln cents.
The crazy part is that the demand for Lincoln pennies will increase with everyone hoarding the 2009 varieties.
These lincolns are being made at a loss now, just wait till 2009.

The mint will continue to produce 1 cent coins. Think how many jobs would be lost if they stopped. 2 Cent piece....honestly....wow.
Nah - it'll never fly.
I knew it would happen.

I think the lowest valued circulating coin should be a dollar - make the highest $10.00 at least. JMHO, but if coins are to retain any relevancy in our economy they need to become more than the worthless place savers that they are today.

amen.
our govt == old saggy boobs
It's impossible to make change with a 2c piece and no one cent. It's
just stupid enough for it to happen.

So, you think the Federal Reserve Bank is not run by idiots? Or the US Mint? Or the self-serving beaurocrats that reside in Congress?
BTW, that new Small Presidential Dollar is just showing up all over the place!
BTW, I like being able to pay the exact amount do as well but there is much, much more to the American monetary system than meets the eye!
The name is LEE!

Sounds seditious to me.
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
or are we talking about the final check out price tally - if this every happens i
see a price increase for everything in stores to have prices end in a zero or a five -
but then the tax would be rounded up also - so would i be hit for a price increase twice ???
kinda like a double whammy !!!!!!!!!
<< <i>see a price increase for everything in stores to have prices end in a zero or a five >>
Stores already price stuff at 2 for 89 cents or 3 for a dollar, yet the system manages to function just fine without 1/2 or 1/3 cent coins, so I see no reason to suspect there'd be any problem should production of cents be ceased.
was so the people in the store were forced to ring things up to
give the customer change, thus stopping theft.
it truly annoys me as a consumer to see things priced like this
and it is all done because of "tradition" by shop owners...
i am the type of person that if i feel i am wronged in the slightest
way i take my business elsewhere.
for example, graffitti on the store's outside walls? i walk in and
say clean it up or i am never shopping here again.
it works! they clean it up and i come back. i will have to try it with
the .99 cent ending crap next time.
