The guy's a scammer originalisbest....my Ebay ID is n_sandler287t, please block me, you don't sound like a person I would want to do business with anyways. I cannot believe that you make an assumption that this is how I usually do my business.I made a mistake, and I am not going to have that mistake quite possibly lose me $800. if you can't understand that, block me. Thanks.

Thank you notwighlight.... I am a YN and I find the way some of you are responding to be atrocious..of course, they are your own opinions, and you are entitled to them. I made a split second decision based on an inflated price guide thinking I could make some money flipping the coin. I found out the coin was worth less than I thought, but I was going to go through with the auction anyways.

Then people started to point out that the account seems suspicious as well as the payment method. While $800 might not seem like a lot to some of you, it is to me as a high school student. Thus, I have decided that I am not going to go through with a deal that might very well lead to me being out $800. And as I stated earlier, if this is not a good enough explanation, you probably aren't the type of person I'd want to do business with.

Better learn to watch your own fast fingers and slow wits before you almost blow $800 again then, sonny. Frankly it would've been a character-building experience for you to live up to your obligations and eat at least a little money in your pursuit of a "hot flip."

And nope, don't want you to ever buy anything I'd sell. I gots a feeling it'd return 2 days later with tearful regrets about spending so much and couldn't you please get a refund.

Please, block me. Now you REALLY don't sound like someone I'd like to deal with. Please look at my feedback. I think you'll find that I am a pretty dang reliable ebayer.

In addition, I can not believe that you stated that I have "slow wits." I find this offensive and I believe that with an attitude like yours you could easily cause young collectors like myself to move exclusively to a more friendly board, like Cointalk. All of the members there are supportive and I have never been called stupid while posting on that board. Shame on you.

Oh, and just to let you know, you don't know me, so don't act like you do. Just because I bid on a coin that I possibly won't get if I pay for, you expect me to simply "learn a lesson" and send $800 to a possible scammer? I don't think so.

coinkid (genius,) it would seem mmiller was addressing ME. You two should get together and give each other a hug... anyone who cannot get their head around a large purchase and have a half a gram of confidence that they can indeed afford it... and only seems to be distracted about what a "super rip" they've potentially made - has no business engaging in financial transactions with actual adults. Have a super weekend! And for goodness' sake, don't ever go used-car shopping by yourself. image

Ok, I lied. This is the last reply (unless you decide to slander me again)

I obviously misinterpreted mmiller's comment, and I know totally agree with what he said. In addition, I in no way see ANY reason for you to bring my intelligence into this conversation, and I'm sure the moderator would agree with me on this. EVERYONE including you, makes mistakes. Now why you won't accept that this entire fair was simply a mistake I don't know.

However, as I have stated and you have ignored many times before, I was ready to pay the guy! I had the envelope all ready to go and asked my dad to take money out of MY bank account to buy a money order to pay the guy. However, after I saw the reaction that many board members gave me to the suspiciousness of the auction, I decided to follow up with both Ebay and the Ebayer. Ebay hasn't gotten back to me yet, but the Ebay'ers response has only solidified my conviction that this guy is a scammer.

It's people like YOU that make coin collecting less fun for the rest of us.

I doubt he's a scammer. You seem quick to decide that he is, accuse him of being one to this board, and you accuse me of slander... now that's funny. You haven't even attempted to go through with the deal you entered into, based on the uninvolved advice from anonymous strangers on a board. Son, demand a refund from your educational institution.

The seller probably just suspects that you have no clue how to live up to your commitments. We all saw the $$$ in your eyes and your "ha-ha, I'll just flip it on eBay when I get it" attitude from your first post. Grow up.

Well, well, welll...... by GOLLY, this has been an enchanting read! image Jeeze, what a beating ~

Being that CoinKid, the OP, is both a YN & a relative newbie on these boards, it seems that he simply "jumped in over his head"...

For one thing, using the words "snipe & eBay" in the same sentence rarely bodes well.

But even if you think you got a great deal on something, and then others point out that you did okay, but nuthing special... and then more posters bring up points that you may not have considered fully.... and then some others bring up the possibility of a hi-jacked account.... well then, even the best of us may get cold feet.

This seems to be a lot like the "Chicken Little - sky is falling" scenario...

I purchased some coins from an eBayer that had a description only, no pics, and no PayPal.... that lived in my same city (I thought that would make it "safer").
Almost a month after mailing a M.O. payment... to a P.O.Box.... and no response to emails.... I asked about the seller on these boards. Only one buyer, who had purchased from the seller over a year before. I really dislike leaving a neg if I've had no response whatsoever - So, I got the "contact info" from eBay. Left numerous messages over the next 2 weeks..... no response, nada. Then, a couple weeks later, as I'm about to Neg the seller (almost 2 months from when the auction ended), I get my three coins in the mail with not even a note.... but exactly as described - and beautiful!

You just never know... Some genuine sellers just don't like the person-to-person "interaction" & that's why they sell online... some are slow... some are lazy... some don't want to "bother" with good pics/or any pics... some don't communicate.

Some real scummy sellers do everything right in their auction, show gorgeous detailed pics, take PayPal, answer all your silly questions with all the right answers & ship immediately..... when you get something different than you bid on they lie, cheat steal, harass & threaten to keep 100% positive feedback.

    Nothing online is a given.

On a large purchase such as this, if I felt wary, I would probably ask the seller if they would consider sending the item C.O.D.

When I used to sell Star Wars collectibles on eBay & through forums in the early 90's, (pre-PayPal) I often sent items C.O.D., it may take a little longer for the seller to receive the Postal M.O., but you know it's good when you get it, and you know you won't be stiffed on the payment... the buyer knows he's not shelling out cash to anyone but the mailman who has his merchandise in-hand.... it's not "instant" but everyone gets what they are after.

CoinKid.... relax, take a deep breath, and listen to your gut instinct.

Well lord have mercy, origonalisbest, and TWQG what a couple of a-holes for hammering this kid. Read Raq's post! He's a newbie, a kid, still in high school. You would rather him make an $800 mistake?? He was baited by the paranoia that exists on this board of scammers. I believe he had 100% intent until folks here made him worry about it, now I still believe he would do what he "contracted" to do if the idiot seller or ebay itself would respond. You guys are jerks to treat a kid this way and you can bet i won't be bidding or buying from either of you. What goes around comes around.
Koinkid, You just verify the info you can to insure your not getting ripped, then just do whats right. I believe that is your intention, and I wish you luck. I also want to caution you to be more careful next time. Spur of the moment decisions for that kind of money aren't a good idea. Post the link here first (although there is risk increasing the competitionimage and someone can certainly help you think of all the angles and keep all the bases covered. hope it works out OK for you....

My dad has Parkinson's, and is retired...he hasn't been doing Safety for Toddlers since like, well, 1999...lol Oh, and my dad is perfectly fine with me using his Ebay account, as long as I'm responsible with it, which I always am, although I do sometimes make mistakes, as in this case.

A few more hits than I would like to see (but typical for a 62), however the very nice original color makes up for it. Certainly a good buy at $845, even with the recent dip in gold prices.

Average collector coin. Not bad, not great. Fees that you would be assessed will preclude your "flipping" it for a profit on ebay anytime in the near future. It's tough to get retail prices on ebay except for key coins in some series.image

I'd say the "dilemma" was of the original poster's own making, and he's lucky it all worked out in the end! It looks to be a decent coin, and it's "not" a 1904.
