Heritage rolling the dice

I got my coin from the Heritage 's Long Beach auction .I was surprised that the $ 2000.00+ coin arrived with no insurance and no signature needed..on top of this the coin was paid with paypal.. Does anyone here use this way of shipping coins ?

Just got it today? Been wondering when my lots will get here. Mail hasn't come yet today, so there's hope. I paid my invoice with a credit card, interested to see if it was insured. If it gets here. Maybe it wasn't. Now I'm worried. Actually, I was already worried. Now I'm worrieder.

I always require signature for anything approaching that value. My guess is it got in the wrong pile and was shipped with lower value coins.

My Heritage purchases in that price range typically arrived the same way. They either self-insure or use a third party insurer, with delivery confirmation. I know I have never had to go to the post office to pick up a coin from Heritage.

Private insurance.

This summer I had two coins (separate auctions) from Heritage never arrive. I am at an APO address overseas, so the packages are in the mail a long time. They also send me 4 figure coins with no signature or deliver confirmation. When I called about the coins, the rep was confused about if they ever shipped as there was no tracking number. They refunded my money, and mailed me USPS claim forms to sign. My guess is their third party insurance simply asks for the USPS claim forms.

I asked the Rep if my account can be flagged to use USPS Insured or Registered. While she said she would note it in my account, somehow I have my doubts.

Unfortunately, the experience put a damper on what had been a good buying run....

This was one of the coins. The other was an MS64 1859 $1G

What happens when delivery confirmation says delivered and you never got it? stolen out of mail box, placed in wrong mailbox, etc.

i was under the impression that insurance protects the seller, not the buyer; if they are self-insured, it shouldn't matter to anyone if they purchase USPS insurance or not.

Had the Postal Person leave an envelope outside my apartment over a long weekend. I was out of town. When I got home PO showed delivered. Went to the PO and they couldn't help me. Called Heritage and they sent me a form to fill out. Faxed to Heritage and got my refund. Heritage now ships everything to me Registered. Even $40 coins.

I now have a PO Box to prevent this, but still comes Registered

Will ebay scammers target an easy heritage ?

Everything I have ever won from them was shipped express mail and I had to sign for it at the post office.
