I have not really done this coin justice through my meager efforts to image it through two layers of ICCS plastic. It is an 1864 New Brunswick cent, of the Large 6 variety, graded MS-63 lustrous brown by ICCS. The Large 6 is the scarcer of the two varieties. Although I love red bronze cents, this is one of those wonderful coins that positively boom luster from under the brown toning (too bad I can't really capture that in the photo). The reverse strike is outstanding, while the obverse strike is about average. Probably fits somewhere in the finest few of the remaining Large 6 1864's.

Indeed, I wish you could pick up the lustre through all the layers, but a nice milk chocolate block nonetheless....it looks very smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooth.

The details on the reverse like the crown and floral wreath look to be exceptional.

I have to agree. This is one beautiful coin. I love the designs of the Canadian, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and New Foundland coins. I have one question though. You said that this was the large 6. In looking at this variety in Charlton's catalogue, the 6 seems to be much higher than the 8 and 4. I have one that looks likes yours. Could it also be a large 6 or is the catalogue picture wrong?

There are at least two dies on which the Royal Mint used a large six punch. Mine and yours have a more or less level date which a double punched six. The other large six die, is sometimes referred to as a low four. I think Jack Griffin first catalogued both types.
