Yeah, but:
"Officers said markings missing on the coins made them appear counterfeit, such as three connected hash marks. The lettering on the sides of the coin is also too close together."
implies that the "markings" are missing, not extra as on the Proof coins.
I'm surprised that they didn't note the S mint marks, and conclude that they represent a form of Satan worship!!!!!!!

Back in the early 80s, I acquired some low grade fractional notes and had fun spending them. Won a bar bet with a bartender that I could pay exact change for a $2.75 beer without giving him any coins, and then tipped the waitress the 25 cent note. Somebody had already told her and the bartender that the notes were from the Civil War era, and she was thrilled.
Up near Rocky Mountain National Park, I went into a tiny mountain town post office to buy five 13 cent postcard stamps. Gave the young lady behind the counter two quarters and a 15 cent note. She absolutely freaked, and said that I would have to wait for the Postmistress to get back from lunch to approve it, as she was the only one there. She was afraid she might get stuck for the 15 cents.

Macomb, IL - home of WIU (Western Illinois University) - reminds me of Charleston, IL - the home of EIU (Eastern Illinois University). Speaking of Charleston and college town stupidity at work, I saw this sign yesterday adverstising a movie out on video.
I did not hesitate to take the pic as I know that it would be taken down later in the day. The very name of the video store is what make it very funny!

EIU in Charleston, IL is in a pickle - a student there with a history of Post Tramatic Stress Disorder got suspended for two semesters because she had a flashback and compared her condition with what happened at Virginia Tech. What these stupid college employees did was that they discriminated against her because of her condition and violated her civil rights. I see a lawsuit coming!
And speaking of stupidity (from the same college), about a month ago 86 kids got busted by the cops at the local pizza joint for underage drinking. According to the local newspaper, a new record. And I would not be the least bit surprised that this record will be broken.......I'm betting at least 100!

or maybe we should realize not all people are the same and politically correctness must die. i would not want to goto school with a fruit cake sitting next to me ready to unleash her problems on the class. people pay serious money for college and too lump everyone in the same bowl is silly. if a person causes a ruckus kick them out for whatever reason. college is not babysitting.

In the case of the student, she was sexually abused pretty bad as a child. As far as post tramatic stress disorder, anyone can get it, especially those who have been in very extreme situations like warfare (which such condition was formerly known as "shellshock" and "battle fatigue"), natural/manmade disaters, and traumatic events in one's life.

i am not a note collector.
i could have worded that better but sometimes money is phased out.
one has to exchange it for the "newer" currency.
