seems possible considering the mint's output this year. Haste makes waste. I'm sure the die experts will weigh in though.

I doubt a coin would ever end up with the prior year's date since the date is applied after the coin is struck. However, a greater chance might be a coin getting the following year's date if is was struck, then for reason XYZ did not get to the edge lettering step until the next year's coins started production.

Essentially with one more step in the process, they introduced more opportunity for mistakes to occur.

Thanks to the human factor (Mint Employees), I would say the chances are quite high that a 2007 dollar will receive a 2008 date. Think of this, the coins are struck then transported in a large bin. A mint employee would only need to move a coin at this point from the bin to a location in the mint that would not be detected until the following year (ie. behind a soda machine or a heater pipe etc.) then, when next years dollars are being made, they retrieve the coin and throw it in the new bin... sure they would not receive the coin and profit from it, but it would be out there, eventually found and they would be able to take credit (If only within the family) and have bragging rights for the umteentousand dollar coin.

Just a thought, but due to human interaction it is plausible (Big metal plate dropped to the floor that says, "Plausible")
