When to EBay, Consign, or sell to a dealer

What guidlines does everyone use when deciding on how to part company with a coin?

At what point do you consider consigning to a major auction firm, or put something on ebay, or just sell to a dealer and avoid the hassle?

I think I am at a crossroads and I need to make a decision. I am very sure I cannot sell locally as the market is not very good here. But how do I decide what other paths to take?

It is a very hard thing to call. It depends on the coin, knowing dealers/collectors of this series you could sell to, track record of the coin, it's really a hard thing to call.

    Ditto what Paul said.
Mega rarities, auction houses, bulk junk to a dealer, slabed $200-$500 stuff on eBay with GOOD pics and good seller feedback.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector.

Well, I just learned today, after talking to Heritage, that their bottom line is $5000 minimum, so that may make a difference if looking to use them (trying to figure out best way to sell 1896-s quarter, but cleaned/scratched in anacs slab, for a fellow collector and was thinking HA but I wouldn't value this at over $2000, and maybe a bit less).

Not sure of other auction house limits

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Too many variables to just give a fast answer. Depends on the coin or coins, how fast you need to sell, what you truly want to get for the coins etc etc. Even consigning to auction is not that simple anymore. There's some smaller auctions out there that seem to be doing a better job than others, but even there it depends on many of the same factors in how to sell your coins to begin with.
