What's a PCGS VF20 1904-S Half really worth?

dohdoh Posts: 6,457 ✭✭✭
I'm asking this because yes, I have one, but also because I just want to hear some thoughts on the subject. We all know they sell for more than book, but what do y'all think is a fair value for one in a PCGS holder?

Cheers, B

Do a fearch on the Heritage Archive and fee what they've fold for.

Heritage is pointless for a coin like this. There aren't enough PCGS VF20s to really track and the ones that have sold have sold too long ago to be accurate.

Northern Nevada had a PCGS VF20 for sale for $850.00 about two months back. It was perfectly toned, and looked great. I passed because the coin looked more like a F15, but it sold within a day or two of being posted.

A true VF20 would be worth $850-$1000 in my opinion.

HA! Arco, that's the coin I bought, funny you should mention it. Northern Nevada doesn't have the greatest pictures; the coin in hand looks very nice with a full "Liberty." I'm very pleased with it.

Oh and Cladiator, thanks for everything you've added to this thread....which would be nothing image

IMO worth a lot more than $850 in PCGS VF-20. Maybe double that amount.

Yeah, I've been trying to find out what the 04-S in PCGS F12 is running these days, but I can't find any that have sold anywhere....

Aside from a very ugly SEGS AU50 that someone is trying to get $3,500+ for, I just haven't seen very many for sale. I'd think $800-$1,200 would be in the ballpark with the range dependent upon the strike and appearance of the coin. Many VF20's are just blah. Very few have a great look to them.

10-20% under bid. If you want more, be prepared to put a lot of effort, and possibly expense, into getting it.
