Some pictures of some new stuff from last Friday.

Just some stuff I picked up last Friday on a trip to the local shop. Tell me what you think about the '09-S/VDB, I see it as an MS63RB, clean with a few minor hairlines in front of Lincoln's face.

This is the local dealer's coin that he wants me to send in to NGC. I don't think it'll grade do to the rim cuts, but it's his money. Other than the rims it has strong luster and fairly clean surfaces.

These two Alaska One-Quarter Pinch and One Pinch medals were sent to me for examination by Beartracks42 after he came by them in a group of coins/medals he bought. The One Pinch is HK-838, the One-Quarter Pinch is listed at Mike Locke's California Gold Website and originally was issued as part of the Hart's Coins of the West Set. I took of picture of the two next to the Lincoln to give an idea of their small size.

These are just some toned Roosevelt Dimes, nothing high grade and nothing spectacular. I have my dealer set aside anything pleasantly toned that comes across his desk, usually stuff from Whitman type folders but ocassionally some nice singles. I've gotten quite a few Frankies, Washies and Roosies from him plus other odds and ends.

These are just a few nicely frosted Washington Quarters still in the cello. What I do is hoard the nicer sets and then periodically cut out the CAM/DCAM/Gem coins and repackage the sets in Whitman holders to resell. The best go to NCS if I feel they'll de-haze and grade high enough to either set-back or sell. Usually the cost to me is a few dollars lost to the flip and the grading fees if I go that route. Currently, the box is starting to fill up again!!

Enjoy and give me some grade guesses, thoughts and post waht you've found lately.

The '09 S VDB, PCGS will give AU-58. Rubs on the hair, ear, and cheek. Still, no denying, it's a very nice coin. Mike

  • I think that the 1909-S vdb is nice...somewhere between AU-58 and MS-63 depending if the "rub" is really rubimage!

Is the VDB weak, Keets? I can see it in the photo but it looks weak and almost doubled???

AUandAG, can't you see the initials?? with the lighting i used for this group of picture the lower right portion of the pictures is darkest, as evidenced best by the group of Dimes. perhaps the color and light isn't clear enough for you, but the initials are there.

the areas that appear as rub in the picture show full luster when rotated under light and actually show a different tone, slightly darker. i'm more concerned about the faint hairlines i mentioned. as for the V.D.B. initials, if you have the Lincoln Cent Book by forum member coppercoins, he has some good pictures on page 46 which matches the coin. the "S" Mintmark loks to be State 4 or however you'd term it, with the "S" lining up with the left side of the "0" numeral in the date.

    Hi keets.
    Nice group.
What's going on with the 63 quarter just below US on the reverse?

It took me a second to see the VDB as well. I agree, I think it will AU58 at PCGS. I'd send it to NGC, personally, and hope to get lucky.

that's on the Mint cello, similar to what can be seen on the '57 obverse.
