The Three Rivers Collection is now open for sale

I just checked out the Doug Winter site, and I see that the Three Rivers Collection is posted for sale. I can’t believe that some coins have sold already, and some are on hold. I heard that Winter had his Indian call center taking orders throughout the overnight in the U.S. I wish I had known. I predict that this fresh, fresh, fresh collection will sell out within two days.

i went straight to the inventory link and i see very very few coins
for sale. i guess they are gone. i did not plan to buy because i
cannot afford them but i at least wanted to look over the prices
    on each date.

very very few coins there are listed as new. a handful.

i see a total of 5 or 6 half eagles.

    inside scoop is?
  • Fresh? Weren't they all acquired by the consigner within the past five years or so? From a few posts I've seen here on the subject of freshness, I'm not sure if being off the market for five years or less makes them fresh. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

    Some very nice coins!

I particularly like the 1808 half eagle and the 1843-O half eagle.

The 1850 double eagle is real pretty, too!

    It's a shame there aren't any O-mint eagles, though!

Yes, and keep us updated on the sales results, and how much money RYK made or lost on each coin! image

If a coin was held 5 yrs or longer I would consider that "fresh" if the previous owner kept it 5 yrs or longer as well. It might be a diff story if a coin changed hands 3 times in the 5 yrs prior to my ownership. Still, 5 yrs is a long time in our market. Outstanding but selected coins purchased in 2002 in many cases have doubled and tripled.

    Always impossible to get into!!!

i think the reason for this is bad web design.

notice this url.. how it ends.
    http://www.raregoldcoins.com/ver4_browser.htm

meaning if you have an old browser, a current version of opera,
and a few other browsers, you get a "page cannot be found" 404 error.

if you try a newer version of internet explorer it works.
let me try firefox fast. it works..

lol funny. i did not see the newps because of his website..

edited to add: unless i am brain dead, very possible, i could not find a link to these coins on his main page. what a strange duck.
i copied the link fully and this time pasted it into ie/firefox and i now
    see the newps.

obviously i wont bother investigate anymore.. let me look over the coins.

egads ryk. these are some expensive coins.
my first thoughts are, why o why did you not sell them yourself
via the BST over the next year and reap the profits?

they are almost all on hold or sold! :-|

wow so many accompanied by a ngc insert! talk about pcgs being
    tight or more correct ;-)

Better than an auction co? With coins like that, do you think RYK could have gotten his own mini-catalog?

I've no problems with his site using Firefox.

There's a great 1847 Half eagle in 63 in his regular inventory...

If I am counting correctly, there are 34 coins in the Three Rivers Collection. In less than 24 hours, 17 of those coins are either sold or on hold (a 50% hit rate). Let's see if my prediction of the entire collection selling out in two days holds true. I will check back tomorrow at noon and see what happens.

34 on the Winter site. Have the ones consigned to Gold Rush Gallery been posted yet? I am too lazy to check and am waiting for Longacre to do this.

In a couple weeks, I will posts my thoughts on why I did not go the auction route, etc. I did want to answer the above question, however. There were eight coins that I originally purchased from Gold Rush Gallery that I sold back to them (outright sale). Since I no longer have a financial interest in these, I feel comfortable endorsing my favorite three of these Dahlonega $5's available at Gold Rush Gallery, for anyone interested in buying them: the 1840-D P35, 1844-D P40, and the 1849-D P55 were my favorite of the lot. I almost kept the 1840-D $5, but it did not fit in the box.

though i like RYK and have no axes to grind, why aren't you guys all over this like it should be at the BST?? certainly there's nothing wrong with someone posting links to coins for sale and the ongoing discussion of Robert selling his coins, but why the bifurcated mob attitude and circle-of-trustism™?? am to understand that if i choose to sell my collection it's OK to talk about here, wait till a friend posts a link and then come in and talk about the coins and direct potential buyers to them??

go ahead and shoot, i have on the full body armor!! this is certainly fine line ism at it's best.

and RYK, i still like ya, court's still out on Longacre, though!!!image

who will be the first to shoot??

    I don't know. Do you?

IMO, an auction co. might have been better and it might have been worse.

I'm pretty sure though that DW can expose the coins to the right audience, and has the credibility to support the prices asked.

    Keets,

    1. I did not start this thread. I did not direct Longacre to start this thread, nor have I directed any of the respondents to reply.

    2. I did not respond to this thread until it was necessary to correct something that was untrue.

    3. I have suggested that the readers of this thread purchase coins which were formerly owned by me, coins in which I have no present ownership interest, and coins that are in competition with coins I currently I have for sale, from the Gold Rush Gallery.

I am confident that I have not violated the spirit of this forum.

ryk was probably answering 20 private messages in one shebang. i know i have already
asked him that on other coins and now i know about the gold rush ones. private messages
    are so tiresome.

but now that you mention your concerns i realized since it was ryk i did not even think
    about the shill aspect ;-)

    1. i didn't say you started the thread nor did i say you asked anyone to start it.
    2. can anyone say PM??
    3. I feel comfortable endorsing my favorite three of these Dahlonega $5's available at Gold Rush Gallery, for anyone interested in buying them: the 1840-D P35, 1844-D P40, and the 1849-D P55 were my favorite of the lot.-----just seems misplaced here.

again, i have no axes to grind, but lesser transgressions have been punished by the mob and i was simply pointing that out, that the cronyism is still safe here. in my mind you were on the tightrope when you came to this forum and started the talk about selling your collection with any type of specific information such as when and where with who. in a way it's similar to the way others have spammed the boards with grade results knowing full well that they will immediately get PM's inquiring about the coins posted.

for my own part, i've never done that but did have an episode this year which came close. i posted about the
So-Called Dollar Mini-Hoard i chanced upon and halfway down the first page you'll see that a member inquired about medals for sale while i also started to get PM's about the same thing. it just seemed that the proper thing to do was to move things to the BST as soon as possible.

this little sale thread and the others seem like that's where they should be, but it appears i'm the only member that feels so, a minority of one!!image

That is the Aunt Fancy, Miss Nancy reference. What goes on around the coin is the world. Let's talk about coins. Please.

Absolutely. Let's ensure that there's zero interesting discussion here and limit our topics just to ebay scams and modern flipping.

Interesting how some who are so tolerant about blatantly off topic threads are quick to criticize this one...
