Coin Dealers: When you go on vacation, do you really go on vacation?

Or are you constantly plugged into the computer, blackberry and mobile phone to see how your sales and auctions are doing?

When I go on vacation, I throw a giant sheet over the house, and put two chairs upside down on the roof!

<< <i>it's always difficult for me to imagine that coin dealers NEED vacations.......I'm sure it's harder than it looks.....but being a collector, and since I always consider coins to be fun/relaxing/stress-free, it's just hard to picture.... >>
When I first started travelling to coin shows, this was one issue that became an arguing point between my parents, friends, and myself. My friends saw me leaving on airplane trips sometimes every week, and plenty of them saw this as leaving for a vacation weekly, especially if my destinations were places such as Orlando or Las Vegas. It was difficult (and still is) to convince people that you're actually travelling to make money and not to slack off.
Vacation travel and business travel are totally different from one another. Vacations are usually relaxing while business (ie. coin show) trips are moments when you're working longer hours than you would be at home in an unfamilliar city.
Because of frequent and often times less-than-glamourous travel periods, I do not have much time to take true vacations. Every so often either before or after a coin show I will spend a day to sightsee around the area (ie. I am visiting Savannah, GA the day before the Whitman Atlanta show). I consider those days "mini vacation" days.

This about sums it up for me, too. For the Whitman show, I'll be staying at a nearby golf resort and making a side trip to Stone Mountain.

This November, when I go to the Houston Show I am adding three extra days to stay in New Orleans. I lived there for a bit in 1986 (actually Slidell, LA and Long Beach, MS.) I want to go back and see the Post-Katrina damage. See if anything I remember is still there. I'll see the new N.O. Mint exhibit as well.
