Paypal receipts from the dead

So my Paypal account is frozen and besides a bunch of hoops I can jump through (although a big PITA) they are saying I will probably need to show receipts for the coins I've sold????
I guess I better get my shovel and exhume the body and see if my uncle was buried with them.

Anybody else had this problem?

  • Why would they want receipts. Sure that it isn't a spoof?
  • What reason did paypal give for freezing your account?

And why do they need receipts of the coins you sold??

Yes! I had the VERY same problem. They limited my account until I could show receipts. I told them I didn't have any because I had owned the coins for years and years. I suggested they look at my feedback to see that I really was shipping coins that I sold. They accepted that (after a week or two). Or, you may want to consider just making up a few nice looking receipts from a few coin companies.

  • If I had a pic of someones cheek with a hook thru it I would post it. I wouldn't respond to that email.

Sign on Paypal and see if it actually frozen or not.
  • no NOT sign on to paypal thru a link provided in the notice!!!
  • It's not a spoof (although i wish it was). I talked to the Paypal guy for over half and hour and the reason is that since I've started selling some
coins that are worth a few bucks they want to see receipts to show that the coins aren't stolen. I said "say what? I've never heard of that before." My uncle is muerto and if there ever were receipts they are long gone.
So I did all the crap they wanted like sent them my passport picture and a copy of a ulility bill and on and on and now he says some Paypal guys are going to decide if I need an affadavid (sp?) or if they'll just let it go. In the meantime I'm f#@*ed as my account is frozen.

I know, I know, Paypal sucks.
Lesson learned today: as soon as the money shows up transfer it out of there.

Ebay wanted a copy of my DL, credit card receipt (for ID purposes) and receipts for the coins I was selling when my volume took a large increase. I faxed it to them that night but it took a couple of days before they let me list more stuff. As my volume kept increasing they kept locking me out of selling more--"seller limits" it's called. I guess they're used to it now as my volume continues to grow and , knock on wood, no problems lately.

I've never heard of paypal doing such a thing. --Jerry
  • Speaking of Paypal, I moved money out of Paypal to 2 of my bank accounts. One says it's processing and the money is still in my account. The other is the same as always. It says completed. Anyone ever get that?

I went through the same thing as Jerry, but thru EBay! NEVER PAYPAL.

You should get PayPal Verified for $5, but what you are being asked sounds like a phishing, like cmerlo1 suggested.

Are you sure you actually talked to PayPal? This sounds very fishy. Beware.

Do you think this is happening because Paypal (owned by Ebay) maybe is concerned you are selling coins not on Ebay, but privately (and still using Paypal)?

You can do that legitimately, as an example, by using our own BST forum and using Paypal as payment, but maybe a lot of this kind of activity sends a red flag to Paypal (Ebay) because they may think you're selling to an Ebay customer, but not actually using the Ebay auction.

  • DoubleEagle59, that is a good possibility as one of the hoops they made me jump through was to list the tracking numbers of the last 7 or 8 Ebay members I sent coins to. I just can't see why Paypal would give a s@&T about the legitimacy of the coins as long as they were getting their cut.

I'm extremely scam wary and made sure that it was Paypal I was dealing with.

I agree: I can't believe they're hassling me for the original receipts of my coins while China is flooding Ebay with their garbage counterfeits.

  • I suspect epay and PayNow are in cahoots........lol

They are not terribly unlike drug dealers ....here, try our product and once you are hooked they lower the boom.
  • Tresgatos - were the coins left to you in writing (a will or directive)? If so, that's a receipt.
  • Ask Raq, no there no directive of any kind and as my update says Paypal
is no longer asking for reciepts so hopefully that is over with.

Can PPal still pull funds from your linked account without your consent or approval?

Are the Rats the ebay'ers who commit state and federal tax fraud, or are the Rats the IRS for investigating the crime?
